I think the exterior cladding is fine, especially considering many football stadiums have no cladding whatsoever around the majority of the exterior. Don't hear many complaints about the concrete walls of the Skydome. What I truly do love is the look of the perforated metal cladding that covers the ramps & stairways. Especially at night.





Also a couple tidbits, there are plans for an exterior LED lighting system (sponsored by SaskPower) & that the main reason they left it until the end is ensurance that they'd get the most price efficient & most modern technologies.

I agree. Reminds me of a giant grain silo. I think it is really a cool amalgamation of two symbols that represent saskatchewan very well.

Which list? The wording I used was accurate, no? I fully recognize where Calgary sits amongst CMA's and urban areas and metro areas but I opted to use city because I can. The Saddledome is not in the city of Airdrie nor is it in the city of Chestermere even though they're both part of Calgary's CMA -the taxpayers in Airdrie and Chestermere are not the ones who may have to fund a new arena in Calgary. Now things may be different in the Vancouver CMA - maybe the residents of Coquitlam or Surrey or Burnaby would see their property taxes support a new sports facility in Vancouver.

It's funny, the city of Vancouver can rebuild BC Place and build a new arena with roughly half the population ofthe city of Calgary, but Calgary can't even build a new fieldhouse.....

Next time say Calgary because no one sees it as number 3 even if some obscure stats confirms it. Do you get you're comparing roughly 750 square kilometres to about 120?

So I'm a pedantic prick despite my using the municipal population as that is the property tax base that'll support any new arena/stadium? It's not incorrect by any means - residents of any community outside of Calgary's municipal boundaries will not see their property taxes directly affected by any such build within Calgary.

As far as Calgary not having newer or better renovated sporting facilities, yupp, I'll agree it's quite odd. Instead we build a $387,000 blue ring in the middle of no where or a very unique pedestrian bridge that dumps it's users in pretty much no man's land as well. Calgary is an odd place, I've lived here for over 38 years and it still amazes how things do or do not get done here - a mix of red neck and not. Hell, we've got Nenshi as mayor (yupp, voted for him several times) in a part of Canada that no one would expect a non-Caucasian Muslim to be a mayor and for the record, I'm a mid-50's Caucasian male. Calgary is just an enigma in so many ways, probably why I like it here and why so many others are so critical of this dumb cowtown.

Like I spoke to previously, it's about the affected tax base that would have to directly support any new or renovated arena and/or stadium venture. Residents of communities that lie outside of Calgary's municipal boundaries will not see their property tax bills directly affected by any such build. Also like I said before, I do not know how things are done in the lower mainland or other urban areas. Hell, I even said that Canada's third largest city is being put to shame by NMS - I am quite critical that Calgary seems to be unable to accomplish what smaller centres can do.

I guess a simple response would be to let all know if a resident of Surrey or Burnaby or North Vancouver would see their property tax bill directly affected by any major new or renovation sporting facility build in the city of Vancouver? I honestly do not know but it is a very valid question IMHO..
