Is it back on track or still in limbo? It's a beautiful project and hope it goes through.

This is one project I really support. The opposition to is preposterous to say the least. This is a classy project that also seeks to rescue two heritage structures.

Just do it.

^ Beautiful project. The facade of the smaller building tacked on to the right of the other is unfortunate - just get rid of that IMO.

I'm sure it will go through. They already made changes for its approval. The city wants it to pass. Its the demolition of this building (of which only the facade is preserve) that is the main problem right now. Maybe they should just let it stand in exchange of a higher tower.

Is the right side of the podium in image #3 an existing building?

Yes, it's part of the 'campus' that is the Maison Alcan. Critics of this project will have you believe that this 8 storey office building built in the 80's is a crucial part of Canada's architectural heritage.

The project discussed above is quite beautiful. Very nice "façadisme" work to it.

Façadisme just means sparing older façades from demo to satisfy preservationists, while building a new structure with contemporary interiors and amenities behind it. The outcome may be beyond convincing, as seems to be the case here.

I'll admit, as far as I'm concerned, I find the new tower showing sleek glass squares in relief on the rendering more interesting. Most likely because of the downpour of regular old façades where I am. What's only common over here may well be precious over there, somehow.

Anyway, this must be a type of project to make almost everybody happy.

I like it, it's like how Massey Tower has fully saved the old bank building in front of it.

There has been absolutely no update on this project since it was shelved in 2015.

The (shorter) east office tower of the River Landing project in Saskatoon is moving through the approvals process - to begin construction in 2017. The Alt Hotel/No. 1 river Landing condo component of the complex is already underway. The condo sold out in a whopping 4 days.

Yes Paris has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to heritage structures. Where I live in Western Canada we have the opposite problem.

Is this being built on top of the current abomination?
