The ceiling heights of the circa towers sure do look low. They look not much taller....if taller at all....than the heights of the parking levels, & auto garages are known for having short ceilings.

the tower proposed for the LA Times site does look like it could tip over in an earthquake. Engineers may say, no, it will be designed in such a way so that even though some corners won't have columns, that will be offset by greater strength where there are columns. famous last words?

The location of 1st & broadway at this moment isn't quite as important as some other sites. It's not a glaring gap the way that 4th & broadway a few block south & 4th & Hill st a few blocks west are throughout dt. or the grand ave proj up on bunker hill.

So related cos now say they won't begin construction not even as late as the end of 2017....which is bad enough.....but the end of 2018?! Ridiculous!

this gives a good idea of the amt of infill still needed to create a consistent whole on streets like olympic blvd or spring....

Incredible proposal.

Hunter took a photo of the architectural lighting on Broadway palace. I like it. Hopefully they light up the bottom portion too. It'll look great once the room lights and retail stores are set up.

If this is built, LA will have a interesting collection of civic buildings with Caltrans District 7, LAPDHQ, and the Borg cube.

Add in Disney Hall, Broad, and the Moneo Cathedral within proximity and this area of downtown has the more respectable and starchitecty buildings. I wish this trend could have carried itself to the rest of downtown.

Interesting article from Globe St — LA is on track to become the most dense US city by 2025, overtaking New York. They say that growth is being driven by young people moving for job opportunities, which is funny because Curbed just put out an article stating young people were fleeing LA.

Damn Broadway gonna have a nice (almost) continuous row of towers between all the ones (already there and proposed) at 2nd to the two coming to 4th and Broadway etc

LA is 468.7 sq mi. NY is 302.6. LA's population would have to be about 150% of NY's in order to be denser. That's not going to happen in any of our lifetimes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population

This is a ludicrous claim by globest. New York City has a population of 8,550,405 as of 2015, and a land area of 305 sq miles (population density of 28,053/sq mi). Los Angeles has a population of 4,030,904 with a land area of 469 sq miles (population density of 8,594/sq mi). Los Angeles would need to add 9.125 million people, equivalent to multiplying the population by 3.26, in order to match NYC's density. Maybe they meant that the LA MSA would surpass the NY MSA in density, but that is a very different thing to consider.
