Even though I'm not a fan of Calgary, I must say Calgary's skyline is looking absolutely HUGE for a city of that size. It's seriously impressive, especially from that south-west viewpoint.

Agreed, but why did you need to add the "not a fan" thing? Have you ever even been here recently?

I'm not a fan of, or impressed by, Calgary's skyline, but don't be personally offended. I'm not slighting the city or its residents.

It's the Canada section, people can't say anything positive without something negative to go with it.

Probably because he's not a fan, and this being is a discussion forum*, expressing/discussing our genuine opinions on such things is why we're here.

*Of course, the logic that we're mostly on SSP to discuss only works for people who don't have most of the forum on ignore.

You need thicker skin I'm afraid. This is only one man's opinion, no need to take it personally.

I'm not crazy about Calgary's skyline either, but even less crazy about Vancouver's skyline. I also find Montreal's skyline very unimpressive for a city that size, but hey it's just an opinion.

I think he was alluding to the urban vibe there, or lack there of.

You're right, I shouldn't have said that, and I didn't mean to start anything.

I grew up in the prairies and have lots of family in Calgary, so I know the city pretty well. I like a lot of things about Calgary. It has one of the best combinations of climate + cost of living + job opportunities in Canada, plus a great skyline, as I said. I can get over the lack of urban form outside downtown, because I understand that Calgary is a young city, and clearly they're moving in the right direction with a lot of urban development.

My issues with Calgary are more on the social side of things, although I'll admit that my views are probably biased and based on anecdotal evidence. For example, I have a bunch of Calgarians on Facebook who deny that climate change exists, which probably skews my perception of the city unfairly. But this has nothing to do with skylines, so I won't dig any deeper.

Dallas, Houston, LA, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, etc... very unimpressive , but who cares, I also find Montréal's skyline unimpressive from classic angles, but the depth of the skyline is impressive.

I don't understand why being in a city recently has to do with being, or not being, a "fan" of that city. I have NEVER been in Pyongyang and I have no intention of ever going there in the future, but despite that, I am definitely NOT a fan of that city... so why should being in Calgary recently have anything to do with being, or not being, a fan of Calgary?

Don't know about you but I think Montreal looks good for its size and it's only getting bigger

That's fair, but you can meet people like that anywhere really. Calgary just seems to have an abundance of that mindset I guess. I've actually never met a climate change denier here in my four years.

What makes the Montreal skyline unimpressive is its fragmented nature. The highrises are spread out in 3 main clusters.

/\ but in that last picture in black and white, these clusters create peaks and valleys that make the silhouette very interresting I find.

I agree with all the Cities you mentioned EXCEPT for San Francisco.
It's skyline is huge! (Remember the City Proper has less than 900,000 Residents). I realize US Metro Area's tend to be far larger than their Urban Area/ City Proper Population's but Honestly SF is certainly no slouch. (Outside of NYC its one US I think that truly gets good Urban Density PPSM @ least in/ around its core).

Your somewhat right/ have a good point. I think Chad & I (Who are both Calgarian's btw), are trying to allude to all the Growth/ Development in/ around Calgary lately/ as of late that is increasingly making the City more Vibrant, Urban, Trendy & Cool.
I just find it odd/ strange as a Canadian how someone couldn't like Calgary.
It's by no means a perfect City & does have alot of problems (Like Sprawl which will get better once the Green Line LRT is built/ up & running). But for our size we have ALOT to offer, Calgary may be a young City but u can see the energy here & how the people feel about the City & it really did take me years to truly appreciate this City but its a great place to live full of great people that care a great deal about our Community & its progress.
(Also Calgary is increasingly becoming more diverse/ Multicultural so that's also a positive step in the right direction). Certainly we are no "Toronto" but we definitely do feel like Toronto from ages past (& that's a good sign).
If Toronto is "NYC Run by the Swiss" then Calgary is "Toronto run by Cowboys"!

I wasn't offended personally. I just asked a simple question, to which he answered very well.
