Also from the Firewalled Press article:

Mastermind Toys @ KP and the redeveloped Target space are planned for summer 2017 openings.

The third Mastermind location is planning to be open for holiday 2018.

So it turns out that WK Chan is still around, just outside the mall.

Mastermind Toys is opening two more stores in Winnipeg. As confirmed with earlier posts one store at KP and will open another elsewhere in the city. The KP store will larger than the Kenaston Store (4,600 vs 3,600 sq ft)

Marshall's and Home Sense will be moving into the 2 of 4 spaces at the former KP Target store. H&M was rumored to move in there.

The site plan of Shops Kildonan Mile has the Costco store expanding
Costco bought a sliver of land to the north of the current site for parking lot expansion and to re-align the entrance way to Reenders!

I was thinking about the third, currently unidentified, location for Mastermind Toys. On reflection it seems to likely be Polo Park they are interested in.

Ya Costco bought the whole parcel that runs along Peguis. Except there is a hydro right of way that bisects the lot for access to the future hydro substation. So the plan showed Costco had a future lot planned further north next to the apartment, in addition to the new intersection with Reenders.

Most likely it would just be a road through the parking lot, so Costco can have its glorious parking lot.

It is for staff parking and overflow, but mostly it allows for the alignment of the new intersection at Reenders. (I'm pretty sure that is what you just said, but ...)

I think ONE of Northgate's previous owners is still involved, but that there might be a new partner. Whatever it is, something's working.

Haha, yes. The whole purpose was to get a proper intersection with Reenders and Peguis.

Would it have been less costly for Costco to buy a small part of the undeveloped land from Canadian Tire behind of the store and pay the city /Shindico to have Renders shift slightly south to align with the existing entry to the lot?

Or do they need the extra parking? I am not a Costco member so while I drive by the Transcona one I can't recall the last time I was in the lot so I don't know how busy they really are.

Well I know Marwest is running Northgate at the very least.

Speaking of which new signage has started going up, Save On looks like it's nearing completion, the drive thru ATM has been relocating close to the mall, and they have started tearing apart a part of the back where Kmart used to be in the corner where the mall entrance was.

I'm interested to see where they go from here, perhaps they will open the parking lot to the back?

I was told that the expected opening is the week of November 7th.

While the Northgate Save On Foods appeared to be ahead of the St James location for most of the construction it looks like St James is very close to the same state as Northgate now. It seems like the plan might be to open all three stores at the same time which would definitely make sense.

Costco is ridiculous. Gets very busy. I rarely go there, but know it's a gong show at all locations in Winnipeg quite regularly.

Blows my mind that there are 3 warehouse stores (Costco, 2 Sams) in Fargo/Moorhead with 250K and only three in Winnipeg with 800K!

Winnipeggers, Manitoban are CHEAP! More so than frugal. lol.. Hence the line ups.
People are even buying things like furniture there. Crazy...
So no wonder another one is opening north in the near future as well.
Sams Club did not perform well in S Ontario so they pulled the brand out of Canada.

Garden City Mall is an embarrassment.
Even there major and only real anchor SEARS is a liquidation store.
Once Eaton's close the mall never recovered.
It has lost some long term tenants.
The truth is, nobody seriously attempted to properly rejuvenate the mall and then lure better tenants than what exists. Pitiful.

The state of Garden City mall is the state of all the smaller local malls in the city, even KP which is larger than GC has its struggles. The reality is the decline of GC and Grant Park really seemed to start when Dominion closed most of its stores here including locations in both malls. Redevelopment might help some but Grant Park continues to be a challenge and struggles to find retailers of merit. It is sort of interesting that it too now has Canadian Tire as an anchor...

Why not just tear down Garden City Mall like they did with Unicity Mall and re purpose the land.

Lack of demand for retail in the Garden City area.
