By the way, when the Drew Eckl building at 880 West Peachtree and 7th comes down - within only a month or so now - given all happening to date, West Peachtree St may prove to be equally dynamic to world famous Peachtree Street.

Has the high rise that will go there at 880 W Peachtree already started permitting?

All the necessary permits for 880 West Peachtree are ready to issue. They are just waiting for Drew Eckl Farnham to move out. Last I heard they were planning on moving November - December.

A one way street is not the problem as much as the speed of the street and the lack of on-street parking that is problematic. Many cities have active one way streets, but they are generally not treated as high speed corridors. In addition, very busy streets benefit from having wide sidewalks to isolate pedestrians from the traffic. A solution for West Peachtree would be to eliminate at least one lane and widen the sidewalks, and or have agreed buffer from the traffic.

W. Ptree and Spring would be perfect for dedicated tram lanes going north and south respectively.

West Peachtree already has parking and wide sidewalks. You're probably thinking of Spring. Traffic is too fast on both, though. Part of that is road design, but there is also no traffic enforcement to speak of in Midtown. The city is just not serious about it, and drivers know that, so they don't follow the laws. There are rampant violations--speeding, box blocking, red light running, going the wrong way on one way streets, failing to stop at pedestrian crossings--yet I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen someone pulled over.

If I'm not mistaken, I think they have talked about more changes to West Peachtree somewhat recently, taking down a lane for bikes, etc. Nothing specific has happened, but I thought I heard something mentioned when they talked about that stuff for Juniper, cutting a lane out for bikes.

Seems inevitable that stuff like that will happen once development ramps up and things like NCR can throw serious weight in Midtown.

Yes. In the recent Transportation study part of the short-term plans for West Peachtree is to add a dedicated bicycle lane and reduce vehicular traffic to three lanes. The long-term idea is to possibly go to two-way but that is still being studied and none of it is concrete at this point.
