Those giant holes can't fill in soon enough.

Agree, I would have thought that AS would have been close to build out by now????

No kidding. Before I read the description I thought it was another Self Storage building.

As for Atlantic House, I think what sets it apart from the Novare Skyhouses is the apparent quality of material used on the facade and crown. I particularly like the angle on the ends of the balconies. That adds some character to the building and helps to set it apart from the dozens of other apartment/condo buildings in midtown with the same cookie cutter concrete balconies. Its not much but it really helps the look of the end product.

As much as I'm tired of Novare's cookie cutter design, the only thing i'd probably change with this project would be putting the street level retail and (preferably apartment wrapped) parking garage directly below the tower. The facade looks pretty good, IMO. The project just hinders density along one of Midtown's busiest stretch of road.

Hopefully it's not accurate. If it is, I think it would be preferable to tear the building down and replace it with surface parking.

EDIT: that said, I was in Boston for work yesterday and saw a similarly terrible addition to the top of a historic building there. It was taller...with the attractive historic portion being about 10 stories, while they added 5 or 10 ugly stories on top. So, this might be the actual rendering.

Yeah...yuck. Please don't disrespect that lovely old historic building with a sloppy afterthought on top of it. If anything just leave it with 3 floors and concentrate on refurbishing what is already there.

There are definitely plenty of better precedents to add floors in a respectable manner.

Here's some exciting news: Pho King (yes, you read that right), a locally-owned Vietnamese restaurant in Buckhead, is opening a second location in one of the recently-vacated places in Plaza Midtown. Authentic ethnic food is exactly what Midtown needs more of. I hope we see more of this in the months to come.

I used to live two blocks from Pho King. Didn't know it was locally owned. Food is great, I'm glad to see them expanding and getting to a location that will earn them more exposure.

The team behind Pinewood Forrest, a 234-acre, mixed-use development currently under construction, understands the power of having what will soon be the largest U.S. movie studio outside of Los Angeles directly across the street.

Probably the worst example I've seen is the I.M. Pei addition to the Lamar Building in Augusta. What a horrible thing to do to a building that couldn't fight back.
