Meanwhile, the handful of, shall we say, "prosperity oriented" churches that tend to annoy people would remain in place because even with property and income taxes it would probably still be worth someone's while to operate them.

Well, since faith is 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, and there being plenty of agencies existing to help the needy, let the failing businesses fail.

Sure is nice that that noisy POS church across the river from here burned. Nice and quiet now.

To the topic of the thread, my in-laws are from Montreal and were visiting and have wanted to see the museum so I went for the first time. My wife has quite a few family members from Montreal who are at least aware of the museum and have expressed interest in viewing it. If that comes to fruition or not remains to be seen.

In terms of the museum, leaving the subject matter to the side, it's very beautiful. The use of technology to make it interactive, its a very modern experience. Really something unique in the city.

I was taken a bit aback by how bilingual it was. To the point of every employee greeting you with a bonjour hello. I felt like I was back in Montreal. It makes sense since it's a national museum, but I was surprised. And it made the experience of watching the videos a bit frustrating since they alternate playing them in entirety in each language. So you may have to wait 10 minutes for the French version to finish if you want to watch it in English. Some stations had a plug in for headphones which I think maybe allowed you to choose a different language though, wish I had known in advance.

Not an opinion, fact.

Faith is 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. Should you want to dispute this fact, produce evidence to the contrary.

No, that would be an opinion Riverman. People who have faith don't need to have indisputable proof in what they believe, but you should know that already.

You clearly harbour animosity towards people of faith. This sort of thing can only end in a shouting match. The truth is, that no one is able to produce evidence either way so let's all just be friends and chill out.

What is asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence.

Good thing we don't build bridges or airplanes that way.

That sounds very dogmatic and very condescending.

faith is a really touchy subject, esp to those who follow it.

its totally out the window to those who follow physics and space science.

Physics/space and faith aren't that far off.

All faiths on earth describe people, gods, beings, etc coming from the sky. So people or beings who have travelled from another place, through space, to earth. Obviously there is no city in the sky, with white fluffy clouds, cream cheese and God sitting on a golden throne.

When you die, either A) you just die or B) your soul may leave this earth to some other location. All the rest of it is just fluff. Of course no one really knows.

Ancient Aliens. Good show when they stick to what are real, historical facts. They do stretch a lot of historical events that are somewhat weird into "it was aliens". But all religions on earth have the same underlying beliefs. Is this coincidence, could be. Also maybe it isn't.

And yes, way off topic.

It's a wonderful building. I love going past it on Provencher and hearing the crickets in the tall grass. I don't like seeing them dead on the sidewalk but they are probably cannibals.

Riverman,

I would hope that as an intelligent person, you would understand that we all have the right to choose our own path....that includes being a person of faith, in whatever manifestation that takes.

To insist that everything that exists is able to be recognized and understood through concrete evidence within the boundaries of our current collective intellect is not only arrogant, but ignorant in my opinion. For thousands of years everyone in the world believed the earth was flat. This was confirmed through every achievable piece of physical evidence. Did that mean it was true?

Suggesting that there is nothing we don't understand is a ridiculous assertion. To demean people who choose faith makes you look as naïve and close-minded as you believe those people are for choosing it.
