Gord's Fish and Chips in the Forks maybe? It has to be good when 3 pieces of fish and chips costs $25.99 plus taxes.

It's called Fergies and it's pretty good. Anyone have suggestions to good fish and chips in town?

Neither is your statement about the CMHR being equally effective, as True North in revitalizing downtown. You do realize that you can debate like an adult. Until that time, I'll just thank SSP that they have an "ignore user" feature...

MTS Centre attendance: 45 games (including exhibition) : 15,294 x 45 = 688,230

CMHR (2015): 300,000* (125-150,000 non-paying customers)

Sorry, maybe I am thinking about VJ's Drive-In, if it's located across from the VIA Rail Station.

I'm assuming you can't read this. I never said what you're claiming. I said that the CMHR is part of what has brought downtown forward

Yay, until you start reading... Re-hashing this again. What can I do, as a citizen of Canada, to change this? What is there to change? I'd wish that every single person in this country, regardless of heritage, would be living a good life out of poverty. What can I do to change all this?

The government gives dollar after dollar, build homes, providing water to where there is no water. What the hell am I supposed to do about it? Marching down the street doesn't do anything. All the uprising in the states over racism DOES NOTHING. Changing your Facebook picture to a flag DOES NOTHING.

People in this life, again regardless of heritage, need to change themselves. You need to have the drive to want change. To actually change yourself.

I'll probably get reamed out about how I'm just another racist pig. But ffs already. I have no control over what happened 50 years ago, 100 years ago. I completely agree First Nations were treated wrongly. Of course, it's obvious. But the issue has gone stale. After doling out billions, giving land, programs, etc, etc it's still the same issues.

It's simple. Give fewer fucks.

Make life better for yourself and your loved ones. Earn respect of your peers. Enjoy every day.

If you concentrate on what you can't control you will never be happy. Especially thinking about those who refuse to help themselves.

Just be a good guy, and smile.

Good wisdom!

Bolded hard to escape the "those who refuse to help themselves" with the daily reminder from all forms of media in Manitoba, where it's a daily barrage of stories about that segment of the population, the Free Press and local CBC outlets are terrible for continually propagating story after story on the subject!

It'll be interesting to see if the content changes (gets more controversial) and talks more about past aboriginal issues here with the new Liberal government. Wasn't there a whole thing about the conservative government not allowing certain things to be included, like labelling the residential school situation a genocide.

Who said that?

Museums aren't there to make a profit.

If churches are tax free, what is the justification that the CMHR be taxed?

Because the municipal assessment act doesn't exempt museums from paying property taxes. A more apt comparison would be why are universities exempt when the museum isn't.

Or how about if MLCC buildings are tax free what is the justification that MPI buildings are taxed?

What if we extend tax exemption to everyone and just get the government to pay for everything.

Churches are a business and a profit centre. They should indeed be taxed, both on property and income.

Speaking of churches and taxes, I'd hope that at some point our federal government gets rid of the clergy residence deduction, or at least amend it to cover only church supplied residences.

^Agreed, or since they receive such large tax breaks from the public, they should be forced to release their returns to show just how much they are making. Sure, if there are some church/synagogue/mosque/etc org's that actually need the funding and are helping the community, fine... but some of the big ones are raking in a ton of money and shouldn't be eligible for such big breaks.

No one is going to want to be the politician to bring this up, but if you make the rule of having to publicly release returns, that could help start public support for it.
