The place is definitely showing it age but I doubt we'll see a lot money sunk into making it prettier when it seems to be, intentionally or unintentionally, geared towards a lower income demographic. They won't be attracting any high end stores when they have a Salvation Army, Dollarama, Giant Tiger and Christmas Discounters in the building. Something like the (Habitat) Restore would have been a good fit but they moved to Mountain Rd. instead (which is a way niicer than their former location)

Hard to write that without feeling like a 🞵🞵🞵🞵, but I think it's a fairly accurate description.

You're not being a 🞵🞵🞵🞵, you're being a realist.

Retailers look for prime locations for their stores, unless they are off price or discount retailers. Mapleton Plaza definitely counts as a hub for discount retailers.

In the long run, Mapleton Plaza will gradually get more and more run down, will then be demolished and the site redeveloped. It's the circle of life.......

I thought that when Canadian Tire moved out that some of the tenants could take over that building. However, it still remains to be vacant. It is a higher visibility location though, so would be valuable if Giant Tiger were to build a bigger store.

I went in there while we where dropping off a truck, and there was a person siting there waiting, and the guy who served me said this guy had drawn up some pretty good plans.

If it where up to him he would go with it

This guy had drawn plans to expand the garage area a little, and have U Haul in there with Dollarama, and Giant Tiger in the main part. The guy from UHaul got this guys attention, and he showed me. I will say his plans give UHaul a space without making it look like a low class industrial zone. The guy even planed out Mapleton Plaza. Told me he was not planning on uploading them because he does not see that anyone would like them. But I do hope he does decide to post em online so I could share em here.

Progress on the new retail strip in the Mapleton Centre:

source: https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t...cba1798d7991f50ecbed70e254fd&oe=586A7B9C

You can see the livery for Thai Zone coming along on the unit to the left.

A lot of thought and architectural design went into this one. I realize developers have to keep costs in check and thus rents, but for a building that will be leased for 20yrs+, you would think they could add just a touch of design flare.

My mother dropped off an article to me out of one of the many magazines she looks at, and I'm hoping it was from a satire magazine otherwise this writer is giving false information to people. Based on the GMA's Shopping centres, and Power centres.
The Article is from this past June, and here is the list it says:
Champlain Mall
Cherryfield Mall
Dieppe Mall
East Moncton Mall (Just Called "Moncton Mall")
Harrisville Mall
Harrisville Power Centre
Highfield Square Mall
Mapleton Place
Mapleton Plaza
Northwest Centre Mall
Trinity Power Centre
Wheeler Park Power Centre
West Moncton Mall
Whitfield Mall

If it's not from a satire magazine I'd like to know where the writer got there info from because a lot of these places he has just named the same place multiple times, and just changed the name a little (i.e) reverted back to an old name, or made it up all together based on area names, or the plans that had been posted on a few different FB groups a while back.

On a Personal Note: I wish we had this many malls, and had them all at 90-100% occupancy rate at all times.

I don't want to be rude, but with all due respect, I find posts like this to be pointless and I informative. It's not from a satire magazine, it's clear someone was just trying to make it look like Moncton has so many places to shop and wrote down all the names they could think of. If I'm the only one who doesn't like posts like this, then I'll shut my mouth and won't say anything again.

I would agree that this particular post was pointless, and even worse, misleading. I know Scarface also felt that the magazine "article" (wherever it came from) was also misleading, but to be honest, reposting it here just compounds the situation. It would have been better to just ignore it completely.

Not good for Moncton. Or shoppers for that matter.

Yeah, not so good for where they are doubled up; especially for Moncton's market.

Maybe Canadian Tire will look to snap up some of the locations and launch a Hunting/Fishing flavoured store style? They've always been in that market as a secondary focus, and some of their newer big box stores have major Hunting/Fishing/Camping sections.

Sounds like the Cabela's brand will remain intact, and it will be treated as a subsidiary company. BPS and Cabela's do appeal to slightly different demographics (mostly hunting vs mostly fishing) and there is strong brand loyalty to Cabela's so this makes some sense.

Still, there are very few markets in North America with both a BPS and a Cabela's, so one has to wonder what this means for us here in Moncton. Both stores could still survive, but if retail sales locally aren't up to snuff, I could see the Cabela's store closing.

The next couple of years will be quite interesting. I think the Moncton Cablela's is doing decent business, so I'm hopeful that they will both remain in the marketplace. With both stores part of the same corporate family, there might in fact be some opportunities for cost savings between the two in terms of logistics and further specialization.........

Since this was an "all cash deal", this says something about the strength of BPS.

Not really. BPS is privately held so of course it's going to be cash. They're also borrowing $2.4B.

Good point. I didn't realize that.

If they're borrowing $2.4B, that could be a bad sign for us, they will no doubt be looking for efficiencies in the system to allow them to pay that debt down.....

SEARS CANADA NEW Format?

It seems like back at the end of September Sears Canada unveiled a new sign, and new store format in the hopes to restructure themselves enough to not go into Bankruptcy. The New sign to me looks like a new colour on the old sign with the Canadian Maple Leaf being the same size as the letters instead of looking like (SEARS"), and also they want to add a really bad play on words as a quote.

I'm wondering what this will still mean for Sears stores especially like the one in Dieppe that seems to be empty 90% of the time.

They did change the format of the store here slightly. the biggest improvement i find is the move to using a central checkout area with a banker style line. U used to have to seek out a cash.. only to wait behind someone returning 9 items and discussing recipes with the clerk for 10 mins. I had frequently ditched my items and left.

I go there at lunch once in while to buy clothes for work.. its usually fairly busy. the size of the store may hide it. I do still find the layout really confusing.. the casual business clothes mixed with jeans mixed with sports wear. i don t understand the layout. The kids section is even worse.. toddler sizes mixed with youth sizes... confusing.

Agreed. The thing I hate the most about Sears is having to track down a cashier. The lineups just went into the shopping areas as well. Oh, and having to walk through the perfume and cosmetics section to get in there from the mall. It's not as bad as it used to be, but not that long ago, they were spraying the stuff around pretty liberally.

The Charlottetown store is less confusing, but still not that great. The Moncton store reminds me of the American stores, I hate having to walk by perfume and cosmetics!!
