[Moncton] Retail Thread

I know that the province is trying to increase revenues any way they can, but this emphasis on liquor and lottery (🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵) is not the best for our society... I'm not a fan of either, perhaps it's not my place to judge. In any event, Delivery Service for Booze, I've seen and heard everything...

This doesn't bother me as there will be a 72-hour wait before your order gets to your house. So unless you are on quite a big multi-day binge, this won't boost impulse purchases in any way that I can foresee.

There has been a liquor delivery service for many years - taxis. And Moncton has two delivery services that specifically target deliveries of booze (and cigarettes and munchies) particularly late at night. They'll actually go to the agency store (they are open late) in Irishtown, Salisbury or Hillsborough for you if you are on a toot and need more likker.

I can only see this benefiting retired folks at home who have no means of transportation. Delivery fees of course will need to be cheaper than a taxi.

With no specific delivery date/time, I can't see myself waiting on day 2 or 3 for the delivery driver to ring my doorbell!

I can not see this being successful. Another NBLiquor fail?

I was looking in Job Postings for a friend of mine, and found out West49 was Hiring for a new Assistant Manager. I know a few people who worked there, and if what there saying is true seems this is another store on the verge of closing there doors.

That would be a large empty space in the Champlain place.

The West49 location has always looked odd & out of place in the food court. I don't think it would be missed if it would close or relocate. I think this space could be used for something else not related to clothing, especially since it's located in a food environment.

Located at 196 Mountain Road in Moncton is set to open in November, and is said to be 10,000 Sq Ft, and have 5 units. Only 1 unit is currently leased.

That address corresponds to the Pizza Delight/Needs block. There is a narrow strip of undeveloped land between both buildings. That may be the spot you're referring to but it seems like a really tight space.

Not to mention it also has a tent city in the back next to the (old?) curling club. I can't imagine who would want to ever go in there.

Also an unusually expedited (and unrealistic) construction deadline. I can't imagine how anything not yet constructed could be open in November. Is your informant reliable?

Sounds more like 1966 mountain rd , the new strip which is almot built, by gorge rd.

That's what I was thinking too. It was the address that was throwing me off.

I think poor Scarface was undone by sloppy reporting in the T&T. There is an article in today's paper about Evergreen Plaza and it erroneously listed the address as 196 Mountain Road. The paper compounded the situation by stating that the location was close to the Dumont Hospital.

I guess they didn't actually send a living breathing reporter out to check the facts.......

Apparently the one leased unit will be for Countertop Creations. The article states that the plaza is more geared towards services rather than traditional retail. This makes sense given the relative lack of parking spaces......

Well it seems other sources may have used the T&T reporting I got it from another person whom is usually good on these things. But he did apoligise after finding out he had misinformed people, and corrected his mistake. It was never posted on the original post I took my info from that it was the Evergreen Plaza so I went on the assumption the person I took to his word had seen the strip, and the fact they had that end of Mountain road blocked off for a while last week.


But now that I know it's Evergreen Plaza it makes more sense. I was actually going to ask if anyone knew of anymore Plaza's in the works because even with the ones existing it seems we have a lot of Commercial/Office spaces for rent, and/or lease.


Also as strange as it may be I've seen building methods I'm sort of glad we have not started following because these strips would be built within 7-10 days, and Potentially we'd have a lot more being built, and staying vacant while they continue to build.

- YES!!! I've been waiting over 20 years to purchase beer & wine at grocery stores and or corner depanneurs. Finally, NBLiquor moving into the 21th century. No complaints there.

The delivery service doesn't necessarily need to be heavily used to be successful since it's simply an extension of their online buying service and deliveries will be outsourced.

Presumably this is aimed more at people putting on events or things of that nature rather than the casual customer.

It may also apply to bars and restaurants who currently either have to pick up orders themselves or hire another company to do it for them.

The old Coop location at the Mapleton Plaza has been filled with a Temporary shop named Halloween Alley. I will say

Pros: I'm glad there is still some use out of it.
Cons: It's just a temporary (pop up shop) type deal, and it 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 they can't get a long term tenant in the Building.

They might have to update the strip a little to make it more inviting.

According to Retail Insider, the Danish home fashions retailer JYSK (now in an aggressive Canadian expansion) plans to open seven new stores across country in 2017, including one in the Maritimes.

JYSK has one Maritime location in Dartmouth Crossing. I have no idea if they mean they are planning on opening a second location in Bayers Lake, or if they plan on ranging further afield. If the latter, obviously I think Moncton would be a leading candidate.

JYSK is a big box store with a footprint between 22,000 & 28,000 sq ft. Lately, they have been building larger stores. If Moncton is in their 🞵🞵🞵 sites, they obviously wouldn't be building at Champlain Place. I think the only possible candidates would be Mapleton Crossing or in the Champlain Plaza in Dieppe. Plaza REIT does have plans to expand Champlain Plaza to the east (on the other side of Skyzone). I could see them locating there.......
