In any case,transit is the single biggest need in Regina and I'm happy it's getting some serious funding.

The uPASS is going to transform the city and hopefully start to instill a culture of transit.

I'm curious what the Arcola East express route looks like. The east end is the most congested part of town and hopefully a great bus route can alleviate some of that.

Arcola Express Bus Route (3 buses) - $1.725 million

1. Arcola Express Bus Route:

The growth in the southeast portion of the City has outpaced the expansion of bus routes

to that area. There is limited bus service to the new communities in this area. The

addition of an express route would service the communities of Greens on Gardner,

Woodland Grove, Windsor Park, and Gardiner Heights.

The current service to these areas results in lengthy travel time to reach the downtown

areas. The longest trip could take up to 55 minutes. Three additional buses are required

to be purchased to establish this service and would reduce the travel time to 15 minutes to

the downtown.

Even if you assume they accidentally double-counted the 6 buses for Arcola Express & Fleet Addition, and reduce it to 11 ($6,325,000), that doesn't leave enough for the 9 paratransit buses, does it? Or would paratransit buses be a little cheaper than a regular bus ($513,445)... I assumed they'd be more expensive.

Paratransit buses are way smaller. Your numbers say $130K for one.

Arcola express route seems useless, unless it has a dedicated lane which hopefully they would implement some how. It will just be similar to the albert street express route, which runs from northgate to southland with limited stops. Your still stuck in rush hour traffic with everyone else going no wear fast

Yeah, but that's one of the biggest problems with Regina's transit system: stops every 2 blocks.

I've used the 40 numerous times - daily for several months - it works really well. Southland to downtown in 10-12mins. Only place that resembles "rush hour" traffic on the route is College to Sask... to call that section gridlock is laughable (as an aside, morning shows talking about traffic being "slow thought downtown," always amuses me - especially when they show live video of this "heavy traffic." Typically, it's simply a dozen cars waiting at a red light. Look back 10 seconds later, and the "heavy traffic" is gone! magic!. Vic East & Arcola? Yep - that's real gridlock). To address the heavy downtown traffic, there are bus lanes that work well. Still plenty of room for improvement in Regina's transit system, but the 40 is a step in the right direction.

That stop sign has to remain there because that is the most dangerous park of my commute by bike in my entire 9km ride to work and people coming off of Ring Road onto Arcola don't watch for cyclists or pedestrians. Which have the right of way there.

The second most dangerous part of my commute is watching out for the left hand turning vehicles off of Arcola heading onto Ring Road. Scary!

The third most dangerous part of my commute are those merging off of Arcola onto Ring Road (heading South on RR) who completely ignore the yield to cyclists and pedestrians sign posted in plain view.

After saying all of this I do feel there should be a better merge lane off of Ring Road onto Arcola.

This makes sense.

I wonder if they could do a red light/green light merge lane there. Have a green light for traffic to merge into a third lane, but have a red light for when pedestrians and cyclists need to use the south sidewalk on the Arcola overpass.

I'd never thought of the Stop sign coming from the Ring onto Arcola as anything more than a necessary evil to ensure Ring traffic doesn't blindly merge onto Arcola (if it were for that purpose, I suppose a Yield sign would be more appropriate). Given that the Ring to Arcola traffic has a stop sign (and line) before the multi-use path crosswalk, and the path has no Yield or Stop, it makes sense that all authorized users of the multi-use path have the right of way.

Wonder why there's no sign reminding drivers to Yield to Pedestrians & Cyclists (like there is for traffic merging off Arcola onto the Ring).

The stop sign is really not the answer thanks to all the useless people who will not merge unless they can go straight across all three lanes to get into the upcoming turning lane. It is happening so frequently I've stopped talking the Arcola exit entirely and will just use Assiniboia or Vic if its not a high traffic time.
