Didn't hear anything about an expansion in size at all in that story, just more seats for people to sit? In any way it wouldn't make it fit more people than they already have going on Friday/Saturday nights.
I have heard however for a while now that they been trying to figure out a way to open up space on the roof. Last plan I've heard is of installing an elevator exclusively for servers to bring drink/food orders up. Would be pretty cool imo.
^ that it totally ridiculous, but it's an attitude that is endemic not just within the EPS but within the population of Edmonton itself. When I lived in Parkdale I heard the same thing, people would be baffled when I said I loved living there (even posters here and that cesspool C2E) and say "well what do you expect" when trying to make things better. It's an ugly trait that Edmontonians possess and is definitely a measure of this city's immaturity and one of the reasons I am much less enthralled about living here as of late

actually, vancouverites say the same thing to people living anywhere they don't both locally and further afield. including edmonton.
it used to feel discriminatory and prejudicial but it's so universal that it now seems almost perversely egalitarian.

^^ as someone who lived for seven years in a "have not" neighbourhood and who now lives in a "have" neighbourhood I can unoquivically state that how the city, EPS (not all.. There are some EPS that champion the area as well) and Edmonton residents treat the inner city is quite a stark contrast.
Much moreso than Calgary anyways, Vancouver is just odd..

While I don't patron this establishment that often I do know many people that do and based on what I've heard it's far from being quiet.
I too have heard Mercer not doing so well and basically alive due to the landlord being the tenant's father. But I heard this a few years back, I'd imagine it is doing a lot better now. It seems to be pretty busy in the evening and at night, daytime not so sure.
Mercer has been reasonably full to VERY busy the last 5-6 times I have gone over the last 2 yrs. Lineups are not uncommon.

Went to mercer a few times shortly after it opened. haven't been back since. don't really have any plans to go back either.
It's kind of apples and oranges in terms of demos of patrons and demos of the surrounding residents if you try to compare it to the proposed bar in the fox.

^^Huh? I don't get that, is there something different about the Square 104 and Excelsior lofts residents than that of Fox/Century/Icons?
Honestly about that magabar, I get the concern, but considering Mercer having no issues with Excelsior and the surrounding residents, I feel the outrage is a tad dramatic. Unless there are complaints and I just never heard..
