At the start of preboard screening lineup, the screener scanning BPs is just doing data collection for the airport authority and CATSA corporate purposes. There is no security function being accomplished.

In the case of the ctv news piece, my guesstimate is that the reporter came back from vacation and had to come up with a story idea. The reporter then picked the idea to the producers but came back with a surprising result, nobody cares about the line-up configuration except for the people in the general line and everything is on the up and up. The reporter couldn't even get Bruce Cran fired up about the issue. Rather than waste a days work, the producers aired the piece anyways.

AA's operations to AB are really slashed this winter. 2 daily E75s YYC-DFW and a daily CR9 YEG-PHX. 228 seats per day.

I would not be shedding too many tears for YYC - at least they have flights to the destination - and 2 per day as well.
With respect to non mainline metal YEG has been dealing with that for years so welcome to the club.

Integra Air’s new daily service to Edmonton

"Integra Air’s new daily service to Edmonton took flight Friday with an official ceremony at Medicine Hat airport. The first scheduled flight will depart Medicine Hat on Monday, Sept. 5 at 6:45 a.m.

“We are very pleased with the pre-sales, there has been significant interest,” said John Macek, accountable executive Integra Air. “We look forward to a long and prosperous route.”

On a side note for YEG since BA doesn't fly here but an interesting story regarding BA and WS and the end to their codesharing.

British Airways in October 2016 is ending codeshare partnership with WestJet, with last codeshare flight scheduled on 15OCT16. British Airways’ BA code is currently placed on 16 domestic Canada service by the latter, including the following:

British Airways operated by WestJet
Calgary – Edmonton
Calgary – Kelowna
Calgary – Regina
Calgary – Saskatoon
Calgary – Victoria
Calgary – Winnipeg
Toronto – Edmonton
Toronto – Halifax
Toronto – Kelowna
Toronto – Ottawa
Toronto – Quebec City
Toronto – Regina
Toronto – Saskatoon
Toronto – Winnipeg
Vancouver – Edmonton
Vancouver – Kelowna

^ So what does this mean for WestJet, BA and possibly YEG?

I thought perhaps WS is more inclined to get closer with SkyTeam and feed KLM's YEG-AMS flights more. Perhaps at some point the KLM flights could go daily.

That's be cool.

Also makes YYC even more marginal for BA. Can see a pull back.

To me all it means is that WestJet now flies their own metal to London from multiple cities so this particular codeshare network is not explicitly necessary.

WS is in bed with too many players right now. For all we know, BA probably was getting the WS seats for very cheap.

I think the KL/AF code shares provide plenty of connections for WS passengers. And with direct service to LON (albeit less frequent and to LGW rather than LHR), the agreement with BA is less attractive.

I don't see this hurting WS as much as it might impact BA.

We will see if BA adjusts their YYC schedule because they picked up a lot of WS connecting pax through YYC.

With WS now flying to LGW you can count on an adjustment....down or drop YYC altogether. The only business increase opportunity is YEG and the window of opportunity will close if WS add more frequency to LGW from YEG. With AA reduced service to Alberta - there is little opportunity for BA for any kind of connections.

As per Johnny's posting on the YYC thread regarding AC Alberta revisions:

YEG unfortunately getting hit again.

YYC-YEG will be down to 11 flights per day now. And still some 50 seater DH3s.
YEG seeing cuts to YVR (until mid Feb then back to 8 daily) , YYC (as above), YMM and YQU. YOW single daily back to an E90. Smaller planes on YYZ and YUL too.

Reduced YEG-YYC frequency and capacity is not a bad thing at all.

The others, yeah, not good. As for the E190 - that's a plane I quite like. In fact, sad to see it being replaced by the A320 on YVR runs.

Well, except, if recent practice stays in place, the YVR arrivals gate for the 320 is nano-seconds from baggage claims, so not all bad ....

Probably from a YEG-centric perspective the end of WS-BA codesharing is a good thing as it will stop some bleeding of Edmonton to Europe traffic through YYC and BA. I'd be surprised if BA continues at YYC, it seems like an awfully over-served market.

I hope the mall is successful and EIA generates the revenues it hopes to receive to subsidize some of the flights we need.

WestJet and Delta>Mexico, Air France Can>USA, KLM>USA

Guess we know some other reasons why BA and One World are out and SkyTeam: Delta, Air France, KLM are in:

https://www.otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/ruling/274-a-2016

WestJet, on behalf of itself, Compass, SkyWest and Delta, has applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) for an approval to permit WestJet to provide its scheduled international service between Canada and Mexico by selling transportation in its own name on flights operated by Compass, SkyWest and Delta between the United States of America and Mexico, for a period of three years or such longer period as may be authorized by the Agency.

https://www.otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/ruling/266-a-2016

WestJet, on behalf of itself and Air France, has applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) for an approval to permit Air France to provide its scheduled international service between France and Canada via the United States of America, and between France and beyond Canada to the United States of America, by selling transportation in its own name on flights operated by WestJet between Canada and the United States of America, for a period of five years or such longer period as may be authorized by the Agency.

https://www.otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/ruling/267-a-2016

WestJet, on behalf of itself and KLM, has applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) for an approval to permit KLM to provide its scheduled international service between the Netherlands and Canada via the United States of America, and between the Netherlands and beyond Canada to the United States of America, by selling transportation in its own name on flights operated by WestJet between Canada and the United States of America, for a period of five years or such longer period as may be authorized by the Agency.
