That was an awesome photo collection, including one of the best photos of WEM where you can see inside the waterpark dome. I just wish the photos were in focus.

Perhaps we could all pitch in for an aerial tour of the city and take decent photos?

^ Photographing though a window in low evening light from a moving, shaking aerial vehicle without a little blurriness would be very challenging for anyone, though.

I've looked into a doors-off helicopter ride before; it's not actually terribly expensive, and you can split that cost between four people. Been wanting to do it for a while, but dread trying to organize something like that, plus I would probably want to rent a decent zoom lens for it.

Thanks for the vibe shot! Although I believe that it's now vibe apartments rather than condos... Returned deposits... . Hard to tell, but the office building attached to it isn't looking to promising, but hopefully they surprise us! Concrete construction on a future LRT line for decent prices with tree top views and quiet neighbours (graveyard)... this stupid project was perfect... Now I don't know where the hell to buy. Would be nice if something mid or entry level went up near grandin station like the Hendrix but condominium. That neighbourhood is severely lacking new product... Illuminadas, uptown, Pearl, serenity and whatever that super expensive low rise (L...something) all went a little more upscale. Nothing normal in that hood less than ten years old...

Edmonton is by no means a "former" industrial town.
Industry forms the backbone of much of our local economy.
It's never too late to improve one self, cities included.

it's less industrial than it used to be. i remember quite clearly the ugly downtown railyards that thankfully aren't there anymore plus all the packing plants that used to be here. i stand by my comment.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but what happened to all the galleries on Jasper and 123rd that now have 'for lease' signs? It's like they all just picked up en masse and left.

The gallery made way for that shiny new tower your not seeing. Some went up 124th street in dribs and drabs not coalescing in one spot. Others went ??

No, he's referring to the block on the north side of Jasper bet'n 123 and 124 St. Minto owns the site and are looking to do a higher end rental building.

^the retail was cleared out as the company from Toronto was going to get going on their mid-rise high-end rental, but then backed out due to the economy and will lease the spots again until things turn around.

"The city has seen a huge drop in building permits.
About $1 billion in building permits were taken out in the second quarter of this year, only about half of what was taken out in the first quarter, according to numbers released by the city's chief economist."

John Rose said the steep decline likely means a slow construction season for 2017.

“The obvious implication is that we are going to have a very soft, sloppy construction sector in the Edmonton region,” he said.
