I've always wondered if there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to drive this route. I suspect it's something lie the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island. Most people say the Cabot Trail is more spectacular if you drive it in a clockwise direction. Is the route around the Gaspe similar?? Is clockwise better than counter-clockwise??
Thank you ! Breathtaking eh ? I've always wanted to film this section and finally did it many years after ... it was just a matter of randomly getting there lol ... and for the ''right way'' around the peninsula, it's everyone's personnal choice. But I hardly believe and heard many times, that the right way is the Counter-Clockwise direction... as you'll simply end you trip by the most ''Spectacular'' section between Percé and the North Shore.
It's like keeping your delicious dessert after your supper's meal

That said, I'll upload Part 2 eventually. Stay tuned.

The history of urban expressways in Hali is quite interesting. It began in the 1960s with the planning of Harbour Drive, a freeway along the waterfront from around Fairview (with a connection to the Bedford Hwy) to a bridge across the Northwest Arm, connecting to Highway 102 with by way of Northwest Arm Drive, much of which was built and is now a boulevard. The first bit of Harbour Drive was also built, the now-infamous downtown Cogswell interchange.

The plan also proposed a bridge crossing the harbour from around the end of the CN rail cut, this bridge is now being discussed decades later.

Anyway, the cancellation of this plan lead to the construction of the MacKay as well as the first 3-4 km of Highway 111 in Dartmouth. I am unsure why a link to the 102 wasn't built then or ever, but it simply won't happen. The province is already pouring money into widening the 102 to six lanes, which will require corresponding widenings of Bayers Rd, Connaught Ave, and Windsor St. This will cost many millions, the fact that there is public housing, a shopping centre, and a cemetery in the way, and given the shift in attitude towards transit (there is talk of commuter rail) it would be widely opposed.

Part of me wonders if that Harbour Drive would have been a good thing for the city, or would it have just been an eyesore and nightmare.

There is talk, but, we have yet to hear it approved or even running. Once it is running, then we can talk about the shift.

Even still, they could run a highway above Joseph Howe Dr. It would do much for reducing the congestion on surface streets.

It is personally on my Top 3 favourite drives in the entire province of Québec.

Enjoy !

Good photos. A lot of A-20 is very boring but there are some nice spots along the St. Lawrence. Otherwise it's a pretty standard drive through rural Canada.

The A-20 from about Drummondville to QC is quite boring, but I find the drive from QC to Riviere du Loup quite interesting, especially where there are expansive views over the St. Lawrence river.

^ Agreed. A-20 gets better the further east that you drive. The bit east of Rivière-du-Loup is pretty good too.

Hot off Apple Compressor... here's my new video of the Bow Valley Parkway through Banff National Park. The Parkway runs parallel to the #1 Trans Canada Highway on the other side of the Bow River. It is used as a local road through the National Park and features turnouts and scenic viewpoints.

Instantly recognizable. I just got back from a vacation in Quebec City and environs (Sainte Anne de Beaupre, Ile d'Orleans, etc.). Fantastic part of the country.

It is a beautiful part of the county. These photos are from a couple of years ago. I went out this way during the first weekend of October in 2014. On the way back to Ontario I took Route 108 from A-73 west to Sherbrooke. It was a pretty spectacular drive -- the colours were pretty close to peak at that time. When I have the time again, I'd love to go back int the Eastern Townships in the autumn. It's pretty bucolic.

Regarding Autoroute 40, is there any chance it might be extended eastward? Route 138 is quite busy through the Charlevoix region.

To be honnest, No chances. I already asked the MTQ about that. They says that the R138 just east of Montmorency Falls until Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré is working well with the actual AADT's and there's no plans for the MTQ to convert it into an Autoroute. It's actually too narrow aswell ( between Houses on the right & Railway + Fields on the left )

I'd say it is not impossible to build through that area, but some expropriation would be necessary (either for the interchanges or south-side service road). Many other properties would likely be encroached, even though a full expropriation may not be necessary.

The best interchange locations IMO:

* Cote de l'Eglise (serve Boischatel)
* Rue Casgrain (serve L'Ange-Gardien)
* Cote Dufournel (access from east to L'Ange-Gardien, likely a partial interchange)
* Rue du Petit-Pre
* Rue Laplante (serve Le Moyne)
* Rue de la Station

Around Casgrain, the development becomes more dense, and a new alignment (north of Beaupre near the hydro dam) would surely be required.
