3,048 ft. If you're diverting to YQL you don't need to get out with any useful load. A 747-100 at 172 tonnes diverted to YQI with 6,000 ft back in the 70's and was able to get in but pax had to be ferried out on AC DC-9's then the 747 ferried out. That said, I feel like almost anything could get in and wait till density altitude drops later in the evening to ferry out empty. It's never hot at night in YQL.

It was seasonal summer. Shifted from EWR to JFK... now JFK year round.

That also means Westjet transborder out of YYC this winter will now be up 1 flight per week with the extra 6 flights per week to JFK now being added.

Time for an update! Construction on the International Terminal is wrapping up this month with some trials and testing already underway. Further trials (including mock passenger simulations) are scheduled for the coming months. The building is amazing, truly a world class terminal that Calgary can be proud of when it opens this fall.

What medium/large airport DOESN'T have a lot of walking around? Seriously, that's the worst thing about airports is the amount of walking they make you do, even the best of them.

That's another reason why I take the train when I travel as much as I can. Train stations, even large ones, are much more compact.

Me too, and now with kids it's always fun to point them out and tell them where each landmark is located. With that line beings sometimes quite slow moving it would be nice if the pics were up there plus maybe some digital displays showing stuff.

Nothing recent but there is always this data from 2013 (figures are for 2011/12) to at least give you some idea.

Pages 70, 74 and 79 will give you the numbers you are after:

Page 70: visitors from the UAE
Page 74: visitors from DXB and AUH
Page 79: total O&D to/from the UAE

Total O&D was 10,109 or 14 ppdew not taking into account any seasonality.

About 1/3 originating from the UAE and 2/3 from Canada.

A380 announcement pending, no doubt. I suppose one would have to consider the numbers for points further east as any YYC service would likely be mostly cnx to points further east, maybe India, Sri Lanka, et al.

Thanks for the photos! Looking forward to working out of the new terminal in the fall. Just curious if any of the areas in the international terminal are carpeted or are they all tile and that rubber flooring that YYC seems to love so much?

Just the new White Hatter's Lounge and one of the retail units. The other 99% is hard flooring.

To me, the numbers for the top 5 Canadian airports clearly show that if given the chance, EK will go double daily at YYZ before expanding anywhere else in Canada. YUL and YVR should clearly get the non stop ahead of YYC. YUL for the superior O&D compared to YVR and YYC + all the Levant connections, and YVR for the Indian connections.

I'd honestly disagree. YVR's international hall is probably one of the nicest airport terminals out there and the vast majority of it is carpeting. Carpet has its place as it cuts down on a large amount of the noise generated by large groups of people walking, talking and dragging roller-bags behind them. Personally I feel that eliminating noise goes a long way towards eliminating stress and that when it comes to travel eliminating stress points for people should be a priority in the design of buildings. Carpet is also much more inviting for people to sit on the floor (which may seem strange but is rather common at every airport I've ever been in) as well as for kids to crawl around on. I would argue that large seating areas in airports are almost always better off being carpet where as the high travel areas should be tile. The rubber flooring used at YYC drives me nuts as I think it looks cheap and is more suitable for a gym instead of an airport.

I'm a huge fan of YVR - it's probably my favourite airport overall anywhere in the world. I like it even better than HKG.
