The shoppers is rather disappointing. I thought it was going to be twice as big as it is in that building. It only uses about 1/3 of the main floor. And the prices are ridiculous.

Thats unfortunate that it will be a sobeys in all of the locations, would much rather have had a Safeway, i personally think they do better out west than sobeys, so i don't know why Empire Co. would do that. I found sobeys to be very disappointing in all aspects of grocery shopping, so thats a bummer for me...

The Emerald Park location will be an IGA. I would be surprised if the two new Regina locations are Sobeys. (I'm sure they will be IGA's as well).

Why is that? I would imagine one could be a Sobey's Extra like the Stonebridge location in Saskatoon

There's an article on the Leader Post about the Victoria Park glockenspiel that was removed when the plaza was built.

I've wondered what ever happened to the glockenspiel. I loved it when I was a kid. This article article doesn't confirm much other than they are currently doing condition assessments (I didn't realize its electrical components were powered by a Comodore 64 haha) and consulting with the city of Kitchener which recently refurbed a similar glockenspiel. They're also trying to decide where to put it. I'm on the side of the German Club that it should be somewhere central where everyone can enjoy it (I like their rail yard suggestion though that would be a ways off). I do think the city's idea of putting it in a new development is interesting (even though I don't agree with it). Although, as far as I know, they still haven't made any decisions about the Davin fountain and they've been working on that for years so I wouldn't expect answers any time soon.

A couple of recent scenes from the CTV SKYCAM:

Downtown core, last Wednesday.

Stadium, yesterday. It's obvious that it will feature prominently on the skyline from certain directions. I wonder if even the scoreboard will add to the skyline -- it looks to be about 6-7 stories tall, well above the treeline.

Elphinstone and 13th? Yeah. I wasn't surprised to hear some people felt pressured by neighbours to oppose the new development.

Council also approved the parking lots, I mean shopping centre, in Greens on Gardiner. I'm not sure about the micro-apartments in that plan. The micro-apt (300sq feet) approved on Osler or Halifax downtown will serve a certain demographic. I'm not sure that demographic exists in GG.

Hate to be the Nimby here but I can tell that the glock was much unloved by those working in the area. Can you imagine being in the middle of a meeting or conference call when that clanging fires up? Wascana Park would be much more suitable. To all the posters on various forums who say it should go back where it was, I ask, how would you like it on your street?

While we're at it, lets designate the current city proper entirely as heritage so that it forces developers to build new neighbourhoods instead of urban infill. Clearly that's the only thing that'll appease these idiots.

The reality is is that theyre contributing to the demise of their neighbourhood. Rather than remove some run down buildings to rejuvenate the lovation and bring new vendors to the area they opted to keep on keepin on. I bet those 29 new cars in the area would of absolutely devastated the entire Cathedral neighbourhood. Did anyone read what the opponents had submitted? NIMBYism at its finest.

It was a parade of idiots and liars.

The main problem is they all pretended that if the building was 3 stories they'd be fine with it. I guarantee that if the original plan had been three stories the exact same group would have mobilized against it. Their claims are completely disingenuous.

We can't even have incremental urbanism in this damn city.

I actually thought your photo made it look better than it was to be honest. The colour in the sunlight was really off-putting and the stone looked like it was trying to be National Park lodge but failing hard.

Let's not forget the baby pooh green hotel across the street! I actually like the Fairfield Inn choice better than west harvest (tho yes, I wish it was a different shade for the Fairfield)
