This style of building looks more eastern Canadian to my eyes. If it were Calgary it would be vinyl siding or stucco clad and there would be dead trees.

This type of thing drives me insane. You see this off the main drag in many new suburbs where there is only a sidewalk on one half of the road and the other is all driveways. The worst offenders though are old business parks. In many of them the parking stalls and asphalt go straight to the front entrance of the office.

Then there's that special area of Calgary known as Alyth/ Bonnybrook /Manchester. Formerly residential neighbourhoods zoned for industrial but still containing old houses and some undeveloped lots. This was taken yesterday not far from Chinook Centre. The road just turns form asphalt to gravel.

Here's a beauty just down the street. Not sure if it started as a barn and was converted to pseudo office or if it was always just the lair of some serial killer. Either way it's for lease now.

I have a fetish for old industrial buildings .... And I guess this meets this half way?

It's got the flagstone facade thing going on (aren't Calgary subdivisions flagstone on the ground floor; vinyl siding up top?), but the layout and the grayness of the rowhomes is very British Isles.

As you said most in Calgary have some fake stone on the main floor and vinyl on the top. Those pictured from St. John's are stone or brick (hard to tell) all the way up. Either way your analogy is still funny.

Execution is questionable but the idea isn't half bad. It provides good access to the rear yard.

Reminds me of when the city of Toronto standardized garbage collection by providing the containers that were too big to get through to the backyards.

Love the random window placements and bright colours... but it's somehow still quite plain?

It's not the greatest thing ever but I also like the bright colours. For me the bigger failure is the materials. Add another texture or something metallic to it and it would be better.

The thing that bugs me about it is that in a building where geometry is so important, the windows are just slightly too big, interrupting the lines.

All of Anderson Rd in Calgary belongs on here. I can't think of a more featureless and depressing drive. Maybe 14th St. or 16th Ave / TCH come close but Anderson is just so featureless and bland. Everything has it's back turned to it and you could just as well be driving in the middle of nowhere.

I'd take a thousand Macleod Trails over this any day. At least on Macleod you're not left feeling like you're an unwanted transient passing through.

^ Nearly all the major arterials in Calgary look like they were designed to eventually be upgraded to expressways not unlike Glenmore.
