New subdivision in the works at the border between St. John's, Mount Pearl, and Paradise. Some of the ugliest duplexes I've ever seen. Affordable, at least.

^ Actually, I've seen worse in SJs, but I really don't like the crappy unfinished rough lumber stairs that everyone there is using now; it fails to fit with the rest of the building. The slight variances in side by side elevations which destroys the symmetry of the duplex is also off-putting and mostly unnecessary.

The offset model (with garages) is hilariously bad. I can't imagine worse than that.

The Bakeapple design isn't bad. The Tickle could be acceptable if they used two materials instead of three on the exterior. In the one pictured, if everything except the fake stone was that burgundy vinyl, it'd be better.

But yeah, that Duntara design is just... WTF? Posted the two pictures just to show they're building more than one of them.

Speaking of horrible entrance stairs... King Edward Place, kind of on the border between Hoylestown and Quidi Vidi (5 min drive from downtown, tops) is a relatively recent build and it has lattice on the wooden front steps.

LATTICE! I didn't even know it could still be purchased.

Yes, but the landscaping is what saves it !

It could be worse. While it is lacking variety. I'd rather live on that street than this one:

Farrell Drive

Although Farrel Drive doesn't make you drive by the old prison to get into town. Farrel Drive has the bonus of having to drive down either Kenmount or Topsail to reach it.

Surprised there aren't street lamps. The cladding is awful especially the grey,red,grey,red pattern. I appreciate the width of the units.

There's a good four-inch wide sidewalk there.

Here the City requires sidewalks on both sides of the street, so not sure what's going on with King Edward Place (which is in the City of St. John's, not one of the suburban municipalities, one of which doesn't even have a planner, let alone planning rules). There are some exceptions in certain heritage areas with narrow streets (Quidi Vidi Village, for example, directly adjacent to King Edward Place; or parts of Circular Road, King's Bridge Road, etc.), but that street certainly isn't within that boundary.

One more weird car thing... went here (the entrance to this street is VERY narrow) to show that sidewalks are required on both sides even when it doesn't make sense. Streetview doesn't show the sidewalks, hasn't been updated since they were installed. But does show this:



What's even in those things? Storage?

Are you asking about the bay windows? For St. John's it might be a good way to maximize any ambient light inside the structures during the winter, spring, summer and autumn.
