The Katz Group thinks ~75% of people leaving the arena will leave via the south side of the building. Time will tell how congested this station is but it won't be anywhere near as bad as Commonwealth or the current Rexall stops.

Maybe Katz should have parking on the north side of the LRT stop?

And what's going on with Alex Decoteau park, why has no activity happened on site since ground breaking? Hate to say but would actually rather see some cars parked than some dilapidated lot.

Hopefully a close look is taken at Calgary's developing cycle network. Lots to learn from the experience down here, both good and bad.

Crowded transit is just part of the sports experience. Hopefully the plaza and downtown being on the south side will help disperse people in that direction, but the station will still be very busy, especially on cold game nights.

They cycle network works pretty well here, I use it every day. The one complaint I have is that it forces lanes to sort of meander a bit on 12 Ave, so if Edmonton does one, I hope the curbs are all fairly consistent in their alignment so the traffic lanes are more consistent and predictable. Another complaint I have about the network here is the part on Stephen Ave, that's the wrong place to put a lot of cyclists, not sure if there is a parallel up there though.

It may be busy put there is an extensive pedway system and multiple other LRT stops a few blocks away.

Exactly. Unlike Rexall (Coliseum Station) there are multiple stations for people to choose from. So it is highly unlikely that this station will experience the same type of congestion issues.

Tenders closed, all good, mob to site is very soon and construction immediately thereafter.

The city is looking at ways to try & disperse a large quantity of people south as the Macewan station will not be able to be served by higher frequency service as Coliseum is when a game or concert lets out

Goodness. Everyone from the architect, builder, owner, planning department and politicians should get a public lashing for ever letting that nasty streetwall off Whyte Avenue happen. It just makes no sense and there's no argument to support it, be it quantitative or qualitative.

^ The worst part about it is the raised "sidewalk" along the sidestreet. I can't comprehend how it was designed that badly.

I get to experience the wonders of that building tonight, when I go to get my hair cut. Bleh, thanks for the early reminder.

And yet was there not a cadre of cheerleaders thrilled with this product when it was proposed?

But it's trying so hard to be!

I look forward to a time when I don't have to endlessly apologise for my old home town.

^ Lets be fair now. Every city has it's own collection of garbage, recent or otherwise. We can certainly complain, but it's not a reflection of the city as a whole.

Take a step back and see the things that have been built, or are currently being built, and tell me even 5 years ago that anyone would have said that it was possible for good ol' chuck to have the quality that we're getting right now. The amount of transformation this city has undergone in the last 4 years (1500 days!!!) is insane. From KR to the AGA to the country's tallest outside of TO... all in a matter of the blink of an eye.

Still, I agree that the project off of whyte is a giant bag of cat vomit. However, you still need a 3 to make the 8's look like 10's. They could have at least clad it in faux brick for gods sake.
