I agree. Without Irving Saint John would be in a world of hurt. As would a lot of New Brunswick.

They closed a bunch of needs that don't have gas bars with them. Must be their new strategy.

I have no inside information regarding what is to be built here, and the Mapleton Centre website is unhelpful, but the current site plan does allow one to make a suggestion:

Building "I" is quite small, and as such probably couldn't accommodate a standard retail venture or a sit down restaurant. I'm going to suggest it could be the long anticipated Mapleton Road Starbuck's location.

I'm open to other suggestions however........

It would be nice if the Mapleton Centre updated their site plan. There is no mention about the impending construction of Building "I", and likewise there is no indication of the impending arrival of Tommy Hilfiger in Building "C".

Indeed you are correct, sir. Both of the closed Moncton Needs stores are for sale and are actively being peddled on the real estate market.

I'd agree with you there specially after Empire the parent company of Sobeys Inc has stated a major loss in revenue.

Supposedly Costco employees have been notified that they will indeed be moving, anyone confirm? I didn't here if they have been told where though.

Lots of smoke but no fire.

Multiple sources have indicated that employees have been told that a move is in the works. Apparently senior Costco management made a site visit and stated as such. Supposedly a public announcement is imminent, but this has not happened yet.

Most sources say the move will be to Harrisville Blvd, but this is not confirmed and the Day & Ross site on Mapleton may still be in play. The fact that the public announcement has not yet been made may indicate that there is something going on in the background.

There is a rumor that Day & Ross was looking at a new site in both Moncton Industrial, and also in Caledonia. If they do move out they want to be as close, and accessible to the highway as they currently are now. But that's only a rumor, and possibly just spread by wishful thinkers. Whether, or not they are moving to make way for a new Costco was not said but there is a separate rumor going around that Costco has already purchased a plot of land in Harisville Blvd. Have not been able to find anything factual on this but still fun to follow the rumors, and find out where in fact they will be moving though.

The Rumors for Day & Ross moving have to do with the constant rumors of higher end commercial, and possibly expanding residential in the area.

Do we have any follow up on this and is it still smoke and mirrors?

Business is picking up

It seems as if the economy here is starting to turn. Lots of new developments started, more imminent and even some more in their infancy as representatives of companies snooping around.

I have heard from someone in the "know" for the city mention Sam's Club and Costco both eyeing up Harrisville Blvd. Maybe with the foray of Cabela's and Bass Pro here more US big box is looking at our area as their first venture into the Maritimes.

On the Costco front. have heard only 1 store for here. Day and Ross does indeed need a new facility and they do own land in Hwy Accessible Industrial areas such as Caledonia and Berry Mills. I think a Costco move to D&R's current spot would be best for them to capitalize on immediate access and high visibility to highway. Seasonal traffic such as RV's and tourists would flock there as they pass by on the TCH.

Has anyone yet figured out what is being built next to Sleep Country in Mapleton Centre?

Didn't Walmart pull all the Sam's Clubs in Canada a few years back?

It would seem so, and maybe my contact got their wholesale clubs mixed up, but he/she did reference both. Maybe it was for a Super Walmart like Plaza Blvd's? Regardless, will believe it when I see it haha!

Yes Sam's Club closed all 6 locations in 2009 if I'm not mistaken the reason they gave all news outlets was they wanted to Focus on expanding Walmart's to Super centres.

This is mostly based on what I remember from the news articles, and plus at the time what I was told by family who where employees of Walmart, and supposed to be moved to Sams Club once the supposed Dieppe location was to be open.

Walmart had land purchased I do believe. When Sams club stores where supposed to be open, and there where potential plans to build Walmart Super centres there instead so that might be where either you, or your source got lines crossed.

There is a new Cleo/Ricki's combo store opening at Wheeler Park in September.

http://www.wowjobs.ca/JobDetails.aspx?k=24138763

There are three vacant units in Wheeler Park. Since this is a "combo" store, I'm guessing that they will move into Unit 17 (old Bowring store). It seems to be the largest of the three vacant units:
