ITD (international to domestic) trials have expanded to Westjet flights (currently only one). Now includes AC845 and many US origin flights.

I noticed AC.com had AC845 arrive at gate 42 (which does not exist) and also there have been several instances where aircraft are docked at the international terminal. Perhaps specific flights are being processed through the customs hall in new terminal as opposed to the existing facility.

I rarely arrive in the middle of the day. My traffic pattern in early morning outbound and late evening return. So I will likely miss the preview of the new terminal. That said I have many flights over the summer, maybe I will get lucky.

I had bad info - they had HU111 on YYC.com and we were told to expect a test flight of just staff. That actually meant there was no metal landing, just the local Hainan and CAA staff being brought on a tour as if arriving on the HU flight. They had real (fake) bag tags and were introduced to the arrival process (international). We found out around 0900 when they started walking through.

It was just a 'dummy' flight that confused me and everyone who told me it was a real flight. The listing on YYC.com lent too much credibility to the rumor:

ITD is the process for connecting passengers' baggage (persons arriving in Calgary from an international destination connecting to a domestic location through Calgary) through customs without the need for picking up their baggage there (unless certain conditions apply). No flights are being processed through CBSA in the new terminal at this point in time. The bridging into the new terminal may be to ensure various airlines connectivity is working, but at this time does not involve any pax boarding or disembarking at gates above B39.

Good thing I didn't cancel my morning meetings to watch it land! I can't image they would want to spend the $100,000+ it would cost to send an A330 from Beijing and back just to "test" the runway and gate layout at a new station.

Just a tiny decrease in May... Down 0.1%. Only 1,500 fewer passengers than last May.

Transborder continues its struggle but domestic and int'l showed small gains of 1.0% and 1.9% respectively.

Overall YTD still in positive territory up 1.0%.

Today marks the first Hainan flight from PEK-YYC. HU7977 operated with an A330-200.

Scheduled to depart PEK at 1605 PEK time.
Scheduled to arrive YYC at 1305 tomorrow (the 30th)

This is a very significant milestone as the first scheduled flight from YYC to China.

Also Hainan's second destination in Canada.

Aside from new metal photo opportunities and a White Hat ceremony for pax arriving at the gate, no ceremonies planned that will be accessible to the public. 115 pax estimated.

Hainan indicated 211 pax were on the first flight. HU's A332's seat 222 meaning load factor of 95%.

I saw that tweet as well. Would be unusual for an inaugural significant international flight to be that empty with all the special passengers, dignitaries etc. accompanying the first flight.
