You don't want to set a bad precedent. If we somehow manage to revoke the historical status of a building, some developers would be willing to do the same for some of their buildings protected by historical status.

I think if its seismically unsound it could theoretically be torn down.

Anyone notice the plans on MFA's website to get rid of that ratty parking structure between the Bloc garage and 8th/Grand?

Eighth, Grand & Hope is a 34,891 square foot development site located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, along the north side of Eighth Street, between Grand and Hope Streets. The site is currently improved with a combination of surface and structure parking. MFA plans to develop this site with a residential apartment tower.

I think it's the prettiest building in Downtown.

Actually... I could look at it day and night for the rest of my life, but I have a job and responsibility.

Tragic to lose JW, but it was obvious as soon as they pushed their date back to 2017. Same with poor Shenzhen. Soon I predict we will see other projects come out and cancel like Macfarlane's 5-OH, all Barry Shy's, Apex 2, Alexan, etc.

^^^ LOL, you're making the JW expansion cancelation sound like it was because of economic issues. That's not the case. As the article states, AEG has been fighting with city hall for almost 2 years now, this is merely their way of throwing a tantrum. I hope the city doesn't cave. AEG is greedy but not stupid. Once the other projects in the area come online, AEG will quietly bring their "canceled" project back to life, asking for their permits with their tails between their legs.

Shenzhen has pretty much always said they planned on breaking ground on the Luxe in 2017..... Not sure how that equates to "economic issues".

We've been DIC*** around by Barry Shy, Joseph Hellen and the other reject whos name escapes me for over a decade, so taking them serious is ridiculous and shouldn't be a "sign of economic issues" since they've been promising the moon with no means of actually getting there. If they magically all of a sudden cancel their projects, I don't think anyone on this thread would be surprised since no one on here actually took them serious.

Projects cancel, revive, change and so on. That's normal even in the best economic situations. Not sure why LA would be any different. We're getting what seems to be a proposal every other month. Not bad for a city that went almost 2 decades with near zero proposals.

On the old thread, you promised us that your insider knowledge of the markets said that we would see a major economic downturn in MAY. Well here we are in June and I'm still waiting......

(P.S. the UK just voted to leave the EU, so tomorrows stock BS doesn't count HAHA)

Thanks for reposting the table Huntet. What does it mean that frankentower 2 is in green? That's underway isn't it?

I'm disappointed that so far nothing seems to be happening with the urban Mack tower when groundbreaking seemed imminent a few weeks ago. Same with Apex 2 and I'm not really sure what's going on with 888 hope.

Regarding the Marriott expansion, I can see why a private developer wouldn't want to compete with the city. Hard to win that competition. I wouldn't be surprised if other hotel developers didn't agree and stalled their projects.
