This is all 100% frontier gibberish. We stand abetter chance of getting an NFL team? You're smoking some good shit. Listen. Franchises aren't strictly a popularity or demographic contest. They are largely an individual and/or company driven effort. A rich person or group of rich people put their efforts together and get a franchise. Boise and Columbus? Why not Scipio? Seriously you make me laugh with your general Eeyore shtick but you've got a serious case of the shit goggles. Get outside. Go get a nice meal and a drink. Ride a river or get on a bike. Actually MLB requires the most amount of disposable income for an MSA. He's right we have a better chance at getting an NFL team than MLB. We don't have the income necessary to support an MLB team. We don't have enough corporate money for an NFL team and already have two popular college teams that would compete for those entertainment dollars. On top of that I don't see a rich enough person out there that would be interested in the gamble, do you? We aren't getting another team anytime soon.

Good info. I'm confused about Milagro. Is this another apartment building in addition to the AC Hotel and the apartment building to the west?

Feel better?

Now join us back here on planet earth.

Yes. SLC has a better chance at landing the NFL than the MLB - and their shot at landing a NFL franchise is pretty damn small. So, take it for what it's worth. The fact is, most articles discussing MLB expansion NEVER mention Salt Lake - and there's a reason for it.

Sports Illustrated, from April. Cities they mention: Mexico City, Montreal, Vancouver, Charlotte, Portland, Austin, Las Vegas, Columbus (better write them and inform 'em how wrong they are), Nashville, New Orleans and San Antonio.

Salt Lake City is nowhere on the list. Not even a slight blurb about maybe being a potential city if any of the above fall through.

A FOX Sports article from February. The cities they list: Montreal, Austin, Vancouver, Mexico City (or any other Latin America city), Charlotte and Nashville. Again, no mention of Salt Lake City.

Here's a Sporting News article from January that lists eight possible expansion cities. Those cities include: Montreal, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Mexico City, Portland, San Juan and Nashville. Again, no SLC.

There's a consensus forming here, both with the cities that keep coming up and the ONE city that doesn't - Salt Lake City.

Here's a Chicago Cubs blog post from February, 2015, that runs down a list of expansion cities. Suffice to say, Salt Lake City is nowhere on the list. Sacramento, Columbus, Indianapolis...they are, tho.

Here's a CBS Sports article from May that lists Montreal and Mexico City as the next likely expansion targets.

Here's another CBS Sports article from April that talk about the most logical expansion cities. New cities not seen above include Havana, Louisville and Brooklyn, no SLC.

To be sure, you'll find stories that throw out Salt Lake's name, but on the whole, especially in recent articles, SLC is not even afterthought - it's not a thought at all. It's not a serious expansion city. It's not on the MLB's radar at all and it's not going to happen.

Finally, last year the American City Business Journals ranked each major market by its economic capacity to host a viable MLB expansion team. The scale was 0-100, with 100 having the most economically viable capacity and 0, obviously, having the worst.

Salt Lake scored a 5.

A FIVE.

Montreal topped it at 81.

SLC was just above Syracuse and just below Columbia, South Carolina.

http://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/news/2015/04/09/capacity1.html

It's not happening. It's not me being an Eeyore to suggest SLC isn't getting a MLB team anytime soon - it's me being absolutely, positively realistic. It ain't happening. Not for a long, long time.

Wrong again Comrade. Salt Lake scored a SIX! Which brings SLC that much closer to getting a team.

Joking aside, I don't think Salt Lake will be chosen when there are cities like Las Vegas, Austin, Portland, etc... in the mix. Especially if the MLB is looking at expanding in Canada and into Latin America too. Plus, the MLB commissioner even specifically mentioned Las Vegas just a little while ago.

I do, however, think Salt Lake is way too low on the bizjournal list. The cities close to Salt Lake on the list have media markets that are less than half the size of Salt Lake's. There are several cities with media markets smaller than Salt Lake's that have two professional sports teams. On the other hand, a lot of those cities have seen dismal population growth and their market share has decreased since they last had a team move there. Also, with regard to Columbus, it has a market comparable in size to Salt Lake, but has no professional teams at the moment. Salt Lake has a chance, but there are a dozen or so cities with a better chance.

Are there renderings for either of these apartment buildings?

I really like the location of the first building, on the corner of Pierpont and 300 West. I know a developer bought the land around that area and I hope that the old brick buildings on Pierpont don't get torn down. It looks like this building is going where a surface lot is, so that is good news.

I too am confused by the second building. It shows on the corner of 200 W 200 S, which is where the AC hotel is to go. Perhaps this is actually the apartment building on the west side of the development?

And the demo permits at 441-445 S Main must be those old buildings on the east side of the road by the Courthouse Trax stop. preparation for the office development we've been hearing about?

Good info, Viperlord. Thanks for always checking these records for us!

Actually I think I answered my own question. It looks like Milagro is the apartment building to the west. The address threw me off too DCRes.

Can't wait to see more from Pierpont by Urbana.

I wondered the same thing. The site plan on Building Salt Lake has the AC Hotel on that corner with that address. You must be right DC, the apartments must be on the corner and the hotel mid-block.

While I am glad to see the DA office starting I do wish more developers would figure out a way to incorporate old structures into their new buildings. I know those buildings on Main that are being demolished aren't anything spectacular, but I think that a blending of old and new is part of what makes a city so unique. Like the proposed reuse of the building on Regent St as part of the Regent St hotel.

As for the one on 300 W and Pierpont, I'm glad to see some additional residential coming to the Pioneer Park Neighborhood. That is such a creative block with different buildings and uses, it really is a great block.
That location is in the D-3 zone which allows for heights up to 75' and 90' with a conditional use approval. Part of that conditional use approval is that the building is 50% residential or greater. I am assuming they will simply be going to the 75' allowable height. While not ideal on such a wide street, (as I've gone into many times before) it will be a nice addition. Hopefully that will spur the redevelopment of the parking lot on the north side of Pierpont as well. I know it's a touchy subject, but the more eyes on the street and residents in the neighborhood the more pressure there will be to deal with the homeless situation.

I'm hopeful about Urbana and excited to see the renderings of that building.
They did the apartment building on 11th east in sugarhouse as well as the "Sugarhouse Apartments

As well as this one coming in?
http://www.buildingsaltlake.com/high-density-apartments-planned-sugar-house/

I'm hoping at the very least we can expect to see more brick out of this building than stucco. Which is especially appropriate for this neighborhood.

If you mean no professional Baseball teams in Columbus yes that is correct. But they do have a NHL team and a MLS team. So almost like the Salt Lake market.

"Follow the Money" is all you have to say when it comes to expanding professional sports leagues.

The apartment building listed on 200 West simply input the wrong address when they applied online. The hotel will be on the corner and the apartment building will be adjacent to it to the west.

Ohh thanks for the correction. I was talking about all professional teams not just baseball, MLS not included. I had no idea Columbus had a NHL team.

Okay I was pretty sure it was the apartments to the west but thanks to you now it makes sense.

We've got some good development going on in that area. 8 story AC Hotel, 7 story Milagro, and 7 story by Urbana:

Plus maybe something on one of the Greek Orthodox parking lots, but I haven't heard anything in a while on that, so I won't assume it's happening.

Does anyone know of any development plans for these two properties? The house address is 148 S and the business address is 144 S 500 E.

I hear the owner is going to demolish both structures to construct an apartment building.

Boyer 151 State St tower

Think there was speculation a while back about Boyer looking for tenants but I think this sign on State St. is new. (If it is not, just enjoy the side view of the new Maverik store.)

Riddle me this: LA just got an NFL team for the first time in 22 years. Why oh why is that? And how did Utah poll when we stole the jazz from NO? Clay Bennet stole the Sonics from your beloved Seattle (oh my!) and landed them in OKC. You see, those little magazines don't buy and place teams. They are for Google researchers to prove points. Sports franchises are "passion play" business enterprises. Nothing else. We will get a team if somebody wants one and can afford it. Read that all again and repeat it.

I'm mostly excited to purchase a pony keg of pop they offer at Maverik.
You can cradle it in one arm, as you smoke and drive with the other.
Actually, that's kinda exciting to know they're serious about this tower.
What was the last on this one....didn't they have to re-up on some kind of agreement, that actually lapsed?
