Has anybody heard any news or rumors around the West Harbour Landing subdivision? The city announced it and released an overview but there's been nothing further. With all of the other subdivisions pending + the fact that WHL wasn't even on the 25 year plan for Regina, it seems like it's still 10+ years away or not going to happen at all.

I think you're on the wrong side of the street. China Pasty is on the north side, Dad's is on the south side. Not in the same strip mall.

Never quite understood why China Pastry moved out of the strip mall on Univ Park Drive/Quance (near Conexus). Rent, I suppose... but the building they're in now has been a dump for years. I don't want to eat food that was prepared in that building - haven't ordered from them since they moved.

They were working on the west wall of the building a week or two ago - looked like they were prepping for stucco.

Last I heard the city is studying the area and the developer is continuing work on the plan, but there's nothing imminent about it. It's still on the long term plan for growth. Someone with more insider knowledge at City Hall or Homes by Dream might know more.

Hopefully that former pool hall where the Chinese pastry is will be demoed.
I would really doubt that that has anything to do with the road realignment, as all of that is across the way.

And I can't believe you don't like moldy former pool halls. That said, the previous absentee owners started gutted the building and the building is beginning to be stuccoed so I doubt its being demo'd (though it should have). I think it's under new ownership.

China Pastry and the old Guys & Dolls are actually two separate buildings/titles. China Pastry also bought the building which is why they no longer rent.

The interior of the building is actually quite nice, but it is, indeed, a shame they have't finished the exterior.

It's still 10+ years away.

Westerra and the Towns are next in line. Coopertown is in the same general time frame. Between those three there's at least 30,000 people of growth. Plus the ~5,000 left in Harbour Landing, Hawkstone, Maple Ridge, and the Greens on Gardiner.

That's ignoring any infill development. It really is pretty far away. I would be surprised if we see it before 2030.

There are old signs for Dad's Organic on the North side right beside China Pastry.

edit: Upon closer inspection, it says "Riders Fresh Produce...."

I new Dad's is in a new building on the South side, but for some reason I had it in my head that they used to be on the North side. whoops.

Go take a look. There is significant earth moving going on in the exact location of the Arcola extension. Edit: driving by this am I noticed they were digging deep but I figured it was storm sewers for the road. Now I am convinced it is a detention pond after finding this in a City document:

Quote:
17. Arcola Ave Extension (Winnipeg St to Victoria Ave)
- Where does the right of way come from?
o CN Rail line
o City owns
- There are other projects that are looking at using that land
o Detention pond – to go near the bend on Victoria
o There is additional land available for that and they are aware of the road widening
I also found the detention pond for Arcola mentioned in an LP summary of City projects.

There is plenty of room for a pond and a road. They are digging where the old back alley garbage bins were stored in this image

Yes, as I said it's not the road.

Is the road supposed to go through the businesses or behind them? I was always under the impression that it would go in a line from arcola then cutting through the old gas station to reconnect to an expanded Sask Drive (as they have accumulated the properties to the north between Broad and Winnipeg.

Through them. They're all going to be demo'd. City already owns every single property along Arcola there and I assume they are just waiting to assemble the funding for the full project.

Not according to this City graphic that shows the road on the old rail right of way.

Well then they sure wasted a lot of money buying all those properties. They already demo'd one building last year. There's really no way they would be able to do the plan without taking out at least the Auto Auction.

If the city thinks that a boulevard of properties between the roads is a good idea then they've lost their damn minds.

As an aside... the accumulation of ~1,437 download notifications in Stormer's image would drive me nuts.

I find it hard to believe they own or would ever choose to own the McAsphalt Plant.

I hear Coopertown is on hold for now. The greatest amount of residential construction is in the Greens right now (in my opinion). Westerra is currently undergoing civil work, the targeted start of residential construction in Westerra is August.

That's the one that made me most sceptical of a route that would go through the businesses.

I thought the city was only widening Sask Drive from Broad to Winnipeg, not all the way down to Victoria.

Both, although I expect the west project will happen first. The west project is called Sask Dr widening and the east project is called Arcola re-alignment.
