Seeing how not much of interest is going up in Vancouver proper currently (aside from Vancouver House) this tower will be fun to watch rise.

I actually really like this one (if it is true to the renders).

I hope it turns out like other office buildings this cycle, and actually ends up better than renders.

Looks to still be at the top of the heritage block - first large floorplate could take some time.
Or maybe the top floor shown is already a full floorplate based on the rendering.

Indeed. Though unfortunately few people invest the time, money and effort on buildings the same way they used to.

Hell no! It's not that we don't put the care and effort into our new buildings, its that there is no industry to support that kind of building, and if you closely analyze older 'styles' you will see that they simply can't satisfy modern programmatic requirements. Go check out the Dominion Building and you will see what kind of office spaces are possible with the fine scale of the older architecture. Pasting that on today's floor plates ends up looking stupid.

New buildings built in styles are perfectly fine for modern requirements. Most office buildings in New York are art deco and no one is complaining.

Yes they are. Those spaces are much more difficult to least to large users.

Heritage buildings are a niche market, and building more of them would not be the most sound financial decision.

The glass is looking nice but those fins are massive, this thing is going to look like a solid wall when viewed from the side.

That is an idiotic and incorrect statement. I know New York very well and to say most of their office buildings are art deco is absurd. Maybe you don't know what art deco is.

That's the intention - primarily for office workers looking out (rather than looking in)
- so their tangential view of the naked residents of Jameson House is obscured.

Looking like a solid wall will probably provide more character than "just another glass curtain wall".

No one argues that re-purposing an older building can be extremely costly, but not every new build has to be a featureless mass of glass and spandrel.

Thats sums it up perfectly. I could have gone into quality of certain building materials have changed and how modern building standards allow for larger windows etc. but but when someone posts a winded narrow minded retort I can't be bothered to engage.
