I really like the idea of it on Garry as I think that it has the most potential to become a cool bar/shopping street with it's connection to the Exchange, the few bars and shops there now, SkyCity coming along, and the owners of The Pint looking at opening another concept there. Having all that bike traffic there would be great.

Yes, it looks like there are a couple of big projects going on there.
Also, the Sport for Life Centre can be moved to the U/C list. Possibly even the Manitoba Museum expansion, although they're only working on the Alloway Hall component right now.
I'm disappointed in the single street bike lane selection. Of course they chose it because it's the cheapest. The planners were definitely pushing it at the open house. It's built for getting people through downtown and not around. Two streets would have been better.
Re: TrueViking's comment. I think that Garry was the best place for it as you don't have the problems with mixing cyclists and bus traffic that you would have on Fort. There's also the problem on Fort with the left turn that so many buses do onto Portage there, and a left-side bicycle lane would have to deal with that. Fort also doesn't connect very well with the Exchange as you have the problem of it turning directly into Notre Dame Av. and Cyclists on that street coming off the left side of the road and trying to cross 3 lanes of traffic to access the Exchange on the right would be far too much, especially after the forced mixing with bus traffic at Fort/Portage. I cycle this route every day going to work (out of downtown) and mixing with transit on Fort is a huge problem on my return commute home. I think they got the design right. My two cents on the issue.

Stopped by the Forks yesterday afternoon and checked out the new bar thing. It was a pretty nice set-up I think. There were about ~8 staff working the bar, so that was nice. Lots of people to serve you. They currently can not serve via waiter. Something to do with their liquor license. But it would be coming in the near future. We did a quick count and there were over 100 people sitting having drinks and food. Some were families with kids (dad having a beer!). But a lot of young people with friends too.
Overall the renos look nice. It still looks like the Forks for sure, but doesn't quite look the same.
It somehow feels like we're missing some projects from the construction rundown on page 1... I think I need to start writing these things down as a reminder whenever I pass by a building site.
Whoa really? didn't know that. any renderings around? I'll check out their website.
I don't know if there ever were any renderings but there have been RFP's for each restaurant and hotelier and I believe the architect has been chosen for the courtyard/atrium expansion. Someone else might have more architectural information than I but that is what I know.

Nevermind buying out the land owners, building a new McDonald's, etc, etc.
Also, the construction visible from the Transcona trail is for the parkade looks like. Google Earth image from May 3 shows work being done there. Nothing on the west side for the new hotel and restaurants. I wonder if the parkade will allow for MLL to stop using the parking lot across the tracks. That's supposed to be land for an RT station, being leased from the City.
Lots of money available for parkades at the rotten casino's but yet there is never enough money to build parkades at the city's hospitals!
I can find parking at the hospitals without too much trouble, but the big difference is I can park all day at the casino parkade for nothing while at the hospitals it'll cost me over $20.
