There are no large ads on MLB, NFL and NBA uniforms AFAIK. I don't think the NHL has any either.

There's no way one league can think they're above other leagues in advertisements. They all require it and gain millions from it.

Give it time. NBA is currently exploring ads on jerseys.

CFL has had ads on uniforms fairly often in the past but did not last year.

I wasn't speaking only about uniforms... MLB has ads plastered all over the outfield walls now which is something you didn't see 25 years ago. NBA uniforms will have ads starting in 2017. NHL arenas have long had ads along the boards and on the ice... I remember laughing at some of the crazy European ad-coated rinks during events like the Spengler Cup, but now our venues are starting to look like that.

I don't get why NHL fans laugh at Euro rinks for being plastered in ads when the NHL is literally run and controlled by big business. It's the embodiment of business. Willful ignorance.

Most junior rinks across Canada are already covered with ads. Only a matter of time until the NHL gets into ads on posts of net and in netting, along with more on-ice ads. The AHL has had ads on their jerseys for decades and nobody seems to complain. That'll be what the NHL goes to first on jerseys.

Right up until the mid 80s there were few if any ads on the boards in the NHL. The ice ads came later, in the 90s. Back then the European approach looked a little bizarre. Slowly but surely though, the NHL has been catching up with the European leagues. Jerseys are kind of the final frontier.

Of course, the junior leagues are almost on par with what they have in Europe.

The field of play should be the one "sacred" exception to the scourge of relentless advertising. Even after 20 years of that nonsense on CFL fields, I still wince at the fact that this country's biggest exclusive sports league has ads for frozen pizza and sketchy gambling web sites all over the turf.

Yes, I know that the genie is out of the bottle, but it's still embarrassing. I would bet that you'll never see ads on NFL or top-level European soccer fields. Probably not MLB or NCAA FBS either.

From what I understand (and I can't remember where I read this), BMO won't have logos of any kind on the field (like BC Place) because it would be too difficult to completely remove between games to keep the soccer fans appeased.

The story at the time this was all going down was that the ads will be added digitally by TSN - similar to how they do the 1st down line.

I hope they can at least paint T O R O N T O in the end zones. They could certainly do the north end zone as soccer stands would sit on top of it.

If anything, they'll proceed cautiously with any non-essential football markings on the field. For now, I believe there are only plans to have extra on-field markings (ads, logos) for the Grey Cup.

For this first run, it's a non-televised pre-season game, so there's really no ad revenue to be lost by not having anything on the field. This is the warm up game for the stadium groundskeepers too so it remains to be seen how they can turn the field back around for soccer in a week's time. Besides, they wouldn't want to upset the delicate sensitivities of a certain subset of TFC fans.

I'm going!

So excited ... might actually even politely cheer for a Toronto team for the first time after living here 29.8 years.

I'd have thought TSN would want to televise it to ensure that it worked out any kinks in a new stadium.

And McMahon soldiers on hosting the Stampeders for the 57th consecutive season. Just wish they'd make it better or make it new.

Yup. Just such an awkward offset I find when the centreline doesn't match up with the centre aisle or the centre of a section on the field/pitch
