That's great news! Hunter, you'll have to go back to this spot in a year or so to document the difference. With Onni 50-story and 8th and Hope, this view will be significantly different.

Should look something like this.

Also, should I move 888 S Hope to U/C or should we wait until we actually see the pit being dug?

Mojeda, I would wait until we see real foundation work re: rebar in the ground for a foundation pour.

I like it. The pool and the blade sign are all pluses. More of that in City West.

Looks like they're putting a small structure on top of the future Freehand Hotel:

And here are some shots of 888 Hope St. re-starting construction:

Oh wow that's weird they covered up the pit from when they took out those storage tanks. Do they not plan to dig out the site??

Back of the evelope anaylsis: LA County has permitted 36,200 multifamily units since 2014 (use this tool to back up my numbers, for some reason the result link won't work http://socds.huduser.gov/permits/). As of Q1 2016, Downtown had 11,000 residential units under construction https://www.downtownla.com/images/reports/Q12016.pdf. This doesn’t include a few buildings that were recently completed, but were likely permitted in 2014 (e.g. 8th and Grand 700 units, 2 of the Hanover buildings) or units that are permitted but have not yet begun construction. Lets say in total those add up to 1,500 units. That means that Downtown, a place with a population of roughly 61,000, representing 0.6% of the County’s population, has permitted 12,500 multifamily units, or 33% of all County multifamily units (36,200), in the last 2.5 years. Including single-family permits, Downtown has permitted roughly 26.5% of all County units (47,000) over that same period. I find that pretty incredible.

I noticed that earlier. But maybe the Cherit Group will get around to this side in a year or so.

Why would the Chetrit Group bother painting a side of their building that's about to be blocked by a high rise?

Not painting I can see. Plywood in the windows makes me think it's maybe not that close to opening though.

Oh, I don't know pride of ownership maybe--at least to make it look presentable if and when it is blocked by a high rise. Oops, lost my head. I think "why both" is is incorporated into the company's mission statement.

Not just the paint job. Talking about boarded up windows, rebar exposed, etc. And if you closely there is very clearly a section of the facade (towards the front of the building where the gutter drains) that will NOT be blocked by a high rise that looks to be in pretty bad shape.

Besides, how were they to know if/when 888 S Hope would ever get built? We didn't think it would for the longest time.

Main point is: Trinity doesn't look like it's actually ready to open.

I have a question about developers, and Chetrit in particular. Does the city not have the authority to force them to make a legitimate effort to finish these projects? I have a rental property in Hollywood and the city sends out inspectors every two years to make sure my building passes city inspections. I can't have a broken window, broken tile or a peeling paint. If buildings like the Clark and the Embassy sit there for years rotting, why can't we demand better enforcement of codes? Why do burned out properties like that mess at 4th and Broadway languish for years? It is so frustrating.
