I went to the first day of what used to be the Yaletown Farmers Market today in their new location at the QE Plaza on Georgia Street. It wasn't very busy. I don't think it's going to be the best location, especially when the weather gets hot. The old location on Mainland Street was so much better with the tree canopy and the old character buildings. Too bad the businesses in Yaletown were successful in having the market moved away.
Last of the two open houses for the blood alley redevelopment. Today until 2pm in blood alley. Take a few minutes to head over or a least fill out the survey online. I liked option A but had a couple suggestions.
Cordova is another fantastic street in the DTES, with "great bones" as we like to say in this forum. I wish the city was a lot more permissive with its allowable density though (with this project and others), because I don't think there will be enough new density to properly re-activate this once great street.
"JUN 1, 2016 — Councillor George Affleck's motion to discuss the barriers was rejected by the Vision dominated council on the basis that the motion was invalid because Councillor Affleck had previously voted against the barriers and so a new motion about the same barriers could not be heard… "
I heard back from the city on Eugenia Place tree situation aka "the Tree at the top of the building in English bay"
here is what they tell me >>
Staff investigated and advise that:
The tree was stressed during the heat spell last spring, when the irrigation wasn’t working.
The tree is being actively monitored by the current property manager.
The tree is not yet dead, and is not a hazard (securely fastened in place).
The tree was part of the landscape plan for the approved development permit; if removed, it would have to be replaced with a substantial replacement tree.
Highly unlikely, but if the strata chooses to do nothing, we would send a letter from the Property Use Group requesting that the dead tree be attended to.
In addition, they have put a note on file for this address so that in the future it does not take several months to gather all of the history and status,
so that's good news I guess.
