did we really thick Vision would even bother to discuss it anyways? it was only a pipe dream. maybe next election someone else will get in and they can be removed.

They did discuss it, and it was decided that barriers would be installed.

The City can't be wasting time rehashing a little thing like Burrard Street Bridge alterations. They've got bigger fish to fry, like land use policies that take years and years to finalize.

I really hope they cancel the barriers myself. But if they install the thin black ones (first pic below), then I think it could look fairly classy. If they install the thick brown ones (second pic), then it's a HUGE mistake. Could you guys live with the barriers in the first pic?

While the thin bars make viewing easier, it's still pretty overbearing IMO.

But the Burrard Bridge is in a different class from this one...

Without the top bar it wouldn't be so bad.

I wonder if they could design a fence that is held together just from the bottom and is simply straight metal pipes going up...

They can. It is what was done on the Ironworkers Bridge. It's not great. Still quote prisony-feeling. Not befitting the Burrard Bridge for sure. Though I don't think any of the proposals are appropriate.

There is this site just east of the Seymour off ramp of the Granville Bridge at Seymour Mews and Pacific Street. I thought it may have been a city owned site that was being held for social housing. But, I saw this for sale sign the other day. Anyone know what's going on with that?

It is/was a social housing site.
But I guess it's also the twin "Granville Gateway" site to Vancouver House - 425ft (but Vancouver House is taller).

The bars on the Second Narrows are very thick, though.

Thin bars with no top support wouldn't be so bad.

But honestly, any barrier will ruin the views.

Thanks. I wonder if the site will accommodate both market and non-market residential buildings.

I went to the first day of what used to be the Yaletown Farmers Market today in their new location at the QE Plaza on Georgia Street. It wasn't very busy. I don't think it's going to be the best location, especially when the weather gets hot. The old location on Mainland Street was so much better with the tree canopy and the old character buildings. Too bad the businesses in Yaletown were successful in having the market moved away.

For a little more background info:

Not sure if this is the right thread...

There are MASSIVE new footings for lampposts or traffic lights in the Pacific Boulevard grass median at Davie St.

I suppose it could also be for a Mobi station (but no concrete pad) or public art(?)

Thanks for posting!

Love this kind of infill, perfect for the West End and preserves and respects the look, scale and feel of the street.

Thanks. That's going to be interesting to watch. And when they do start something there will be a great vantage point from the Seymour ramp.
