There are few numerate 'journalists' in HRM; the word 'numerate' meaning understanding financial statements and financial issues.
Perhaps they ask you because you are very didactic; the word 'didactic' meaning teaching or instructing in a moral fashion.

I also noticed a large billboard up by the MacDonald Bridge Toll Booth for Queen's Marquee. It says nothing else on the board, no facebook, no website. This makes me think there will be a significant residential component.
And the Armour Group website is currently offline.

The power point used during the Spring Garden West engagement session is now online: http://www.livewellonsgw.com/the-latest

I pulled a few of the more interesting slides to give an example of the type of massing they are looking at at this early stage.

It's all planner pie in the sky. Just be hopeful we don't end up with some 4-storey Highfield Park specials with wooden balconies and vinyl siding.

Council may finally kill Texpark development agreement

United Gulf's undead contract for Twisted Sisters will either by discharged or brought back to life.
Quote:
United Gulf president Navid Saberi ... says he’ll be asking for an extension on the undead Texpark agreement in anticipation of a new dual-towered proposal that’s almost ready to be brought to council.

“We are doing a lot of analysis on this site, and we’re getting very close to submitting our plan to the city,” Saberi says.

His original Twisted Sisters development never happened. Time to pull the rug from under his feet.

Sounds like a smoke screen to me. 10 years is enough. It's time to give another developer the chance to do something really great on this site.

Truthfully, when looking at the Twisted Sisters rendering, it's looking pretty dated to me. I think a whole lot better could be done with it.

Let's kill it and move on...

At the west end of Park Avenue in Dartmouth (on the land directly behind Alderney Manor), there is a small digger at the East end of the property, and a # of trees have been taken down. Anyone know what might be up?

The publication that shall not be named has reported that United Gulf is working on a new plan for the former Texpark site. They said they might try to build under the old DA, or they might try to get a new development approved at a similar height. It sounds like the new proposal would not conform to HRM by Design.

Hopefully they'll either build to the existing DA, propose something that follows HRM by Design, or sell off this site. With all of the other improvements happening in the area this lot is really going to stick out like a sore thumb.

Here's something listed as a future development for Victoria and Queen in Dartmouth:

Agree, that is a fairly small space for that massive a development.

I thought the quality of our new buildings was slowly creeping higher, or does that only apply on the peninsula?

Over-development or not, it's sinfully ugly.

I think it's more of a massing diagram than a final rendering.

That is ugly.
The height is good for the downtown area. I can't agree with it being an overdevelopment of the the lot considering its a block away from something of similar height and size.
Plus it's in the downtown, at 15 stories. The buildings down on Irishtown road will be bigger than this one

I was thinking, when looking at the sketch, that in a few decades people will be looking at these buildings the same way '80s buildings are looked upon now, with disdain.

I understand following styles, and how the new and unique becomes 'the norm' and all that, but I can't help but feel that the 2010's are going to be looked at as the time when a lot of buildings are characterized by disparate blocks with various styles of cladding usually in 3 or 4 different colours, not necessarily in keeping with any kind of theme, asymmetrical application of balconies/windows, and that little flip-up part at the top that looks like a skateboard ramp for super-extreme skaters.

Not a fan, really, but like most things it will pass.
