Cool entrance, but I find it overshadows the Ogilvy façade.

In other news, I noticed Friday that scaffolding has gone up in front of the hole in Hudson's Bay façade where the Skywalk used to be.

Agreed. They would not be dressed like that if they were in the new expansion as it remains an active construction zone.

I hope it was just that particular picture. If that was all I had to go on, I'd have to seriously wonder why they bothered to save the façade.

The new entrance looks amazing. I guess I'm dating myself, but I still feel like the late 90's renovation is new with the cutout steel maple leafs and the wood panels. The new renovation is almost sci-fi to me. Here are a couple of shots from January that I never posted that will show you how far the reno has come in four months.

Here are a few pics of Rideau.

Laura Second is opening where The Exchange used to be.

Everyone has seen this vantage point already, but whatever.

Ogilvie Square

On a side note, if you go to the future LRT entrance next to Shoppers you can peek through the tarp and see the entrance. It looks great.

Ogilvie Square. I imagine the tenants on the left side of Nicholas, the convenience store and cell phone repair place, will change over time. I wonder who will end up getting those spaces.

Its a coffee roastery. There are beans literally everywhere. I suggest a visit to their just-off-preston location. Its fantastic! Can't wait to see this at Rideau!

I thought that was going to be a street level entrance to the LRT. Will the LRT only be accesible on the lower level next to Shoppers?

I just received an email from RW&Co saying they are closing their Rideau Centre store.
It's unfortunate but I have to admit I haven't been to that store in ages.

The street level LRT entrance is on the east side of the entrance at Rideau/Sussex, where it is also all boarded up.

There will be 3 entrances to Rideau Station. One inside the mall next to Shoppers, another on the corner of Rideau & Colonel By right outside the Rideau Centre, and another next to the Highlander Pub at the gateway to the market.

It will certainly make rapid transit access to the area a lot easier and more convenient than the current setup of all buses at Mackenzie King. And if the city keeps the local bus hub at Rideau (which, judging from the design plans for Rideau St which have bus bays, I'm guessing they are) it makes for a much more efficient connection to local buses.

citydweller and kevinottawa, what wonderful photos that you took of the renovations of the exterior of the Rideau Centre! The outside of the Rideau Centre expansion is beginning to take shape. I am surprised that the Laura Secord store is going in the place where the Exchange pub use to be. I also assumed that part of the LRT entrance was going to go there. I am surprised that R&W is closing down at the Rideau Centre. It was only opened a year and a half ago and not even a little bit more. Has J Crew closed its doors at the Rideau Centre? Are those people in one of the photos that you took inside one of the future shops are any of you people who participate in the forum?

Actually, RW&Co has been there for several years.

I strongly apologize, Requin. I just did not notice how many years the R & W store has been around the Rideau centre.

They did close to renovate a little while ago, maybe that's what you were thinking of!

Arrow Renovation of R&W

EJHall, that is what I was exactly thinking about. I assumed that they might had renovated the R&W to make it look new, because the lights, the floor, the roof, and the walls seem to look very new. As you well know, they are always relocating the shops at the Rideau centre. Laura Secord use to be in the position where Trade Secrets is now on the ground floor,and then it moved to the location of the present EB Game stores on the ground floor. Now they are putting the Laura Secord in the location where the former Exchange pub use to be. I assumed that part of the LRT was going in the area where the Exchange pub use to be. Shoppers Drug Mart is in the location where the former food court was. They keep on moving locations all the time at the Rideau Centre.

A poor hesitant clueless soul trying to figure out the right exit in the middle of this is either a nuisance or a hazard. It's best to keep it simple so that every stair/escalator from the platforms goes up to the same concourse where the choices for exits can then be made.

Looking at what's proposed, it doesn't seem like an unreasonable effort to unite the two concourses:

Is the Rideau Subway station entrance going to be where the former food court use to be right next to the new location of the Shoppers Drug Mart? A Laura Secord store is going in the location where the former Exchange pub use to be? There will be another LRT entrance where the former Scotia bank was once situated.

That's right; three entrances;

1. West entrance at the base of the Transportation Building, corner of Rideau and Colonel By with the escalators under the former food court and sidewalk;
2. Central Entrance is suppose to be an elevator going from the subway concourse up to the Skywalk level of the Rideau Centre;
3. Third entrance where the Scotiabank used to be.

Entrances 1. and 3.
