The problem with the new build was it's street front presence. Parking in front and no apparent re-cladding or change to the older structure. On it's own, not bad. combined, it isn't pretty to look at...

Here's a few more renders/info from the thread..??

At least there's a bit of a pocket park hiding the parking. It could be worse. That 70's building is unfortunate though. They could update it quite simply by adding dark metal cladding or something to the depressed areas mimicking and extending the shape of the windows

...proposed to replace:

Incidentally, the proposal posted above by Someone123 would also be replacing a couple wooden Victorian apartment buildings (among a few more generic older houses-turned-commercial). It's nice to see new construction here but we're also losing our older building stock at an alarming rate, especially along major corridors. Unfortunately the major corridors tend to have the most "iconic" (if not always grandiose) older buildings.

They could totally "update" the building with mid-rises similar to the ones in Copenhagen to keep the architecture consistent.

Some much needed new affordable housing building to replace a downtown car garage. It's being built next to the Diplomat motel which is also being converted to affordable housing units.

I see there was this:
Job No 134240188-005
Description: To construct an addition to a Residential Tower (adding loft floor and podium mezanine)(Encore condominiums)
Location: 10180 - 103 STREET NW
Plan NB1 Blk 3 Lots 209-210
Applicant: WESTRICH ENCORE INC.
Status: New
Create Date: 4/19/2016 9:24:00 AM

That's after the 138m DP was approved, but no other details. So I guess it will be higher; will try and get more info.

Proposal for new tallest in London. The developer is Rygar, who had previously proposed a 33 storey tower on this site, but at that time they didn't own the land. Another developer bought the land and then sold it to Rygar, who additionally bought even more land. Anyways, the new proposal is for:

3 Towers - 38 floors (125 metres), 29 floors & 9 floors. One London Place is our current tallest at 113 metres.

x-Tower in Edmonton is beautiful but is it not a photocopy of Trump in Vancouver with different base glass?

^ It really is. I'm still very skeptical of this one actually going anywhere, though.
