GREAT post Migs - goddamn that is impressive. Probably going to be the best stadium in the country. Having to been to old Mosaic, I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say no is is going to miss hacking their knees on those seat backs on the small side!

Oh, you got THAT right!!!!!

I ALWAYS banged my knees against the angle irons that held the back of the seat in front. (And the spacing is terrible too!)

I will not miss the old Mosaic!

Holy Jeebus - NMS looks fantastic. I'll have to get out there for a game next summer - if I can get a ticket.

Rogers looking good as well - very impressed with the interior at ice level there.

Yeah may want to call it "The Good Riddance Season", lol. Just curious, is there anything in it or part of it that's from the original structure?

And fyi, found this cool pic from the last major expansion of it, way back in the 70s...

Aside from bench seating being used as art in certain areas around the stadium, it's all new.

When were the lower deck stands built? I recall someone posted aerial pics of Taylor Field some pages back and to my surprise there was only some tiny temporary stand on the east side until not all that long ago (the 50s, maybe?)... this was of course due to the fact that baseball was played there and the east side of the football field was the outfield.

Kind of reminds me of the frankenstadium aesthetic of old Winnipeg Stadium. The original 1953 east/west lower stands were there right to the end, and they were by far the crappiest, most poorly-maintained part of the place. By contrast, the east side upper deck dated back to the late 70s and looked much more modern.

These days if you added on to a 25 years old stadium it probably wouldn't look that wildly different, but back then adding on to a early 1950s stadium in the late 1970s meant two wildly different looking styles.

I believe the lowest part of the west grandstand (of old Mosaic Stadium) was built in 1948. More rows were added around 1960 or so. Then the upper deck expansion was in 1978.

As you pointed out, the east side had moveable bleachers until 1966, due to baseball also being played on the field. The current east side grandstand was constructed in two phases, in 1966 and 1972.

^ Thanks! I didn't realize the east side stands were that new. It's actually built more recently than the original parts of McMahon Stadium, but walking through there it feels like it's older than the 1953 parts of old Winnipeg Stadium. Or at least that's my recollection.

I'm surprised that the multi-use nature of Taylor Field lasted until 1966. In some ways it's a forgotten part of the past... a few days ago I think it was Michael Fougere who mentioned the stadium's past as a site for not only football but also soccer and field hockey, forgetting about baseball entirely.

Pictures don't do the Rogers Place mega project and the construction that's happening any justice. The development is mind-blowing walking around the site and Stantec/JW Marriott haven't even reached grade yet.

The arena itself has come out surprisingly as impressive as the renders depicted it. Are there still plans for programmable external/roof lighting?
