When were the lower deck stands built? I recall someone posted aerial pics of Taylor Field some pages back and to my surprise there was only some tiny temporary stand on the east side until not all that long ago (the 50s, maybe?)... this was of course due to the fact that baseball was played there and the east side of the football field was the outfield.
Kind of reminds me of the frankenstadium aesthetic of old Winnipeg Stadium. The original 1953 east/west lower stands were there right to the end, and they were by far the crappiest, most poorly-maintained part of the place. By contrast, the east side upper deck dated back to the late 70s and looked much more modern.
These days if you added on to a 25 years old stadium it probably wouldn't look that wildly different, but back then adding on to a early 1950s stadium in the late 1970s meant two wildly different looking styles.
