So then you can't do that.

BTW, Hydro, though publicly owned, is not the same as government.

Go research yourself.

As long as the government can rape Hydro (thank you NDP) it kinda is.

Your speNDP made it part of govt. by looting MB Hydro profits and revenue for the past 17 years and by implementing malicious hidden tax increases in disguise as rate increases!

I didn't vote in this election, as I ended up working at both my advance poll, and, unbeknownst to me until the day before election day, the regular poll in the community beside mine. That said, my intended vote was for the PC candidate in Swan River.

By the way, that doesn't make Hydro any more or less a part of government than it was before.

The Alberta government can "rape" completely private corporations in the same way.

I've done the research. It doesn't jive with your assumptions.

Here's another one - Government workers by province: Manitoba is slightly above that of most provinces, but almost identical to Saskatchewan.

Government Enterprises: Manitoba is above everyone else (Hydro) expect the vaunted private utopia to our west - Saskatchewan.

Program spending is not different than Alberta or BC, and less than Saskatchewan:

I don't know if we were talking about this in another thread but the financial post is reporting that BCE is offering to buy MTS and is moving its western Canadian head office to Winnipeg. Hopefully that results in a shiny new building downtown

Pretty sure this news bounced around here a while ago, but Murray McN's Monday column shows a rendering of the new Hilton Garden Inn going up at the Seasons development.

I guess it was a matter of time before a hotel sprouted up around there, and I'm also guessing it won't be the last. I'd imagine that this area could easily support another hotel or two just like it.

I doubt it. Seasons and Outlets at Seasons are a very different set of offerings compared to Polo Park. Seasons is mainly about IKEA and Outlets is an outlet mall with a different store lineup and clientele. Polo Park is still going to be the main super regional mall in the province.

Could the vagueness of the MCCC release be around the long on-going chatter that the Symphony has not been happy as a tenant as the Concert Hall and talked about moving their base of operations to Pantages with a new addition on Main St? Perhaps WSO has provided MCCC notice that they are indeed leaving but that news is covered under a confidentially clause. That would leave the MCCC looking for a new use/primary tenant for the Concert Hall.

Highly doubtful. MTS is the sole occupant of three towers at the Portage and Main corner already. Any changes from the BCE deal, if approved by Government reviews, would most likely be internal desk shuffling than building a new tower. At most it might see them leasing some space in an existing tower at 201 to add to the space the already have.

Yeah, agreed. They will already own these assets, so makes sense to use them. Also, I don't believe they actually even have a separate western HQ yet, just smaller regional offices. And likely because there will be many redundancies at MTS with head office on Montreal, they decided it would make more sense to move ppl from MTS to Bell without having to actually move people.

What will be interesting from this deal is what happens with MTS Centre. Likely will be Bell MTS Centre (gross) for a couple years before Bell inevitably chops MTS off. But we can't have another Bell Centre, so Bell Arena maybe? Maybe they should sell rights to RBC so their name can just be on every building here.

Yeah, it did. part of the overall plan. Well it's the garden variety of suburban looking hotels but it's a hotel either way.

Naming rights to the True North arena come up again in 2021 unless either side uses their early exit clause, assuming one exists.

That said with the deal pending approvals while past the start of the 2016/2017 hockey season I would guess the earliest the name change happens is summer 2017. That would likely give three seasons under a changed name before the contract came up for renewal. I wonder if Bell will try to negotiate an extension to the deal before changing the name. I wonder if they would consider "TSN Centre" as TSN is a Bell owned brand with a strong existing relationship with the Jets. It would also make a nice shot across the bow of Rogers/Sportsnet every time they had to use the name of the building.

Wouldn't the capacity of Pantages (just over 1000) vs. Centennial Concert Hall (2300) be a little small for the WSO? Notwithstanding it would need new seats as those seats in Pantages are horribly uncomfortable.
