I have to disagree. It looks like white stucco to me and the design itself is bland and utilitarian. Yuck. Like every other lightly-colored stucco building that has gone up in the last couple decades, this looks like it belongs in Florida or Southern California or something, and doesn't fit Denver. (Then again, now that there are so many of these things all over the place, maybe it does.) Hopefully it looks better than the renderings once it's built.

It looked to me that if the train had pulled all the way up to the end of the platform like normal, the back end is right about where the end of the canopy is.

Looks like elements from the Capitol Complex Materplan are coming to fruition.

I guess they will try to get some street level retail which will be great for that area......in addition to the civic center revamp that part of colfax might lose a little grit.

Thank you for posting this! I had no idea there were any plans to tunnel Lincoln between 14th and Colfax. That is fantastic!

I think its more of raising the park and placing a lid overtop rather than lowering and tunneling Lincoln, but agree, that is awesome!

I'll believe it when I see it for that building on the corner of 15th and Colfax....there have been plans for a building on that site for a LONG time, and they never seem to come to fruition.

I agreed whole-heartedly with Anthony Paglia in his hilarious Westword article. He does start the article by speaking of the best new buildings in Denver. But in any decade in history you can easily complain about the ugliness and cheapness of the vast majority of buildings being constructed anywhere in the world. I've been to every major city in the US and Canada and it is the same situation in all of them. I'm currently in LA and the vast amount of ugly shit boggles the mind (Huntington Beach, YUCK!!!).

I'm really excited if the CO State building will finally be built at Lincoln and Colfax! Another one of my most despised parking lots will be gone.

BTW, I went to high school with Craig Nassi, the developer of the Prado, Beauvalon, and the Belvedere, all mentioned in the Westword article as examples of Baroque-A-Cola. I understand he is developing similar crap in NYC now.

Couple of things.

High end condos aren't the issue; they're more able to absorb the insurance costs. Additionally, it's my understanding that for quality developments that include more rigorous quality control procedures, insurance companies have lowered their premiums. Lastly there may exist a positive belief of finally getting a construction defects fix passed. That might include an optimism of a Republican takeover of the State House and keeping the Senate (at he state level). The Dem governor is NOT the problem.

Do you mean self imposed? Or Building and fire code?

Self imposed. My understanding is that initially as a defensive approach to assure they wouldn't need to worry about being sued whereupon they found insurance companies willing to drop their premiums for "better practices."

There's about a 0.001% chance the park bridge will happen. But the building at the corner is high probability.

Or a city ordinance passed recently to at least give them a fighting chance in court. Seems more likely given that just happened, rather than we've coincidentally just crossed some magical threshold that the five other buildings still under construction in a few block radius weren't privy to.

Sounds like my state. Prices got high enough and a few developers have found a way. I bet that's a bigger factor than the legislative/legal hopefulness a couple of you are referring to.

There's a high-end focus here too on the projects that have started so far, which have also not had to use pre-sales to get financed. Next month we'll see how the presale model works as that's starting on project #4.
