there is probably a Sears (and/or Michael's) somewhere in the shadow of Clockzilla.

Just checked: an adjacent mall (not the Centre Laval shown above, but nearby Carrefour Laval) has a Sears.

Maybe it has been posted, maybe not. But think of those poor Lavalois having to look at the buttcrack of Clockzilla, everyday.

I see the Bay in the mall across the street. That's almost on par with Sears for being only kept alive by the elderly.

Edit: I also see 3 people in that moonscape panorama shot you posted Molson. That's 3 more than I've ever seen in any picture of Laval. It's like finding Waldo among the cars.

Big box hell but I don't see people getting all up in arms, starting petitions to stop these big box hells or even organizing protests. As such, people must for the most part like them or they'd be devoid of customers - things don't exist or continue to exist if the paying public doesn't visit.

People aren't given the option to have anything better. 130th ave was probably planned 20 years ago and just now finished construction. I remember when it was just the Co-op and BP's along with that segment by the archway in the early 00's. What's worse you have the landfill north and east of it and an entrance to a community at one end where tons of cars have to exit at the beginning and end of the day. I can't think of a worse planned urban area in the city.

People don't have to buy in these areas as well. There are options, we bought our home in what is now considered an inner city community now but we did look in newer communities as well but decided that we wanted something different then these newer communities offered. It was a choice just like many people we know who opted to purchase in newer communities even though they could easily afford to live in other communities.

At the same time, we abhor those big box areas like Crowfoot or Westhills but we're probably more the exception than the rule and there are many people we know who very much like the big box shopping areas.

A lot of people also seem to like big gas-guzzling trucks, Donald Trump, and Duck Dynasty. The fact that people like something doesn't make that thing less ugly. It doesn't even make it good.

Woah, woah let's not get carried away here, there's nothing ugly about a big gas-guzzling truck! Well, until you put a huge lift and douchy stickers on it at least.

No, they are all inherently ugly. And, more often than not, pointless for any practical reason, which makes them even uglier.

That's a bit disingenuous.
As Jake LaMotta memorably said in Raging Bull "I've got no Choice! I've got no Choice!"

Sure there are choices, but unless you are willing to spend considerable effort and time, you are pretty much at the mercy of the built environment, and the bone-headed policies/decisions that promote such built environments (on the latter point, it sure as shit ain't only market forces at work here). When first downtown, and then the malls are emptied (replaced by head shop paraphernalia, tattoo parlors, pawnshops, cancer-screening clinics, dollaramas, and a lot of vacant storefronts), what choice is there?

Gas guzzling trucks are fugly.

Ugly.

Ugly.

Ugly.

Dodgy, Phord, GMO, respectively.

OK, if you need these vehicles for your trade. But 99% of the fucking time, the cargo areas are empty. Sorry, but I hate the look of these vehicles, and what they stand for for a certain type of driver: that stereotypical bearded/goateed-tattooed-pot-bellied-slob-with-fat-porker-wife-trump-supporting-climate-change-denying-immigrant-disliking-fast-food-gorging-muffler-modifying-king-of-the-road assholes. Make no mistake, there are plenty people that fit the profile.

Like this turd on wheels:

cyclist is bashed by a pickup truck and then punched and kicked back to the ground when he shouts at the savage driver

quickmeme

i hope there is a special place in the deepest circle of hell for this fucking asshole:

Here is Mr. Archetype, in the flesh, but with a dose of karma:

I don't know if I should laugh or cry when I see a very short woman (French Canada has lots and lots of short women BTW) trying to climb into one of those huge trucks, while her husband is sitting comfortably in the driver's seat.

It looks about as user-friendly as me climbing a step-ladder to paint the ceiling.

Why would you want to do that every single time you have to get in your own vehicle?

That instant karma video was hilarious! I laugh every time there's a snow storm and I see one of these jackoff trucks in the ditch. Happens all the time. Think they're invincible.

Is there a law against disliking pickup trucks, and expressing such dislike/contempt for a subset of stereotypical assholish truck owners? How does this "make us 12" ?

Are you denying that such a stereotype doesn't exist? That it is not commonplace?

not all people that drive trucks are jerks, but alas, quite a bit more than a few pickup truck drivers are major jerks. They epitomize the worst aspects of contemporary North American society.

Personally I'd take the problems of dtes over the sprawling parking lots and strip malls of Surrey. But that's just my personal taste

You people are hilarious. Am I not allowed to have a negative impression of Surrey?

Well I worked in Surrey for years, and parts of it are not "a shit hole".

but i didn't get my panties in a twist over your comment, which quite frankly could be construed as assholish. But yeah, you are entitled to your opinion, just as I am.

by the way, loads of people living in Surrey drove pickup trucks.

Because the majority of things you and otacular seem to post are the same things repeated over and over. Nickelback, Harper, trucks, avril, and that clock tower.
