As long as whatever gets built takes up the entire vacant lot (no parks/greenspaces please) and presents a better face to the sidewalk than other P&M buildings do, I'll be happy.

I'm pretty sure that the top half or so of the building was going to be condos

When I saw it, it was only along a portion of the property, like a rectangle along the back lane kind of adjacent to the Whiskey Dix building.

Sounds like it is relating to the Wiskey Dix conversion to The Palomino Club.

For much of the winter they had that portion of the parking lot closed and unplowed.

Is the lot immediately adjacent to Whiskey Dix (circled below) owned by Harvard or is it owned separately? It would be annoying if it weren't part of the rumoured construction project and it just remained empty.

Looking back at it, it seemed like such a sure bet with big buyers looking to scoop up multiple condos. If this project looked audacious back in 2013, it's a lot less so now given all of the development happening in the area. What happened that knocked this project off the rails?

When I walked by the fenced off area one day last week, it looked to be a staging area for the Albert St. parkade rail fence replacement project as there was a bunch of the rails stacked on the ground inside this fenced off area.

Another thing that knocked this project off the rails was the lack of support from neighbouring properties to make the back lane private... The City had a hearing to close the back lane between all the building along Albert and the lot (I think everyone knows which lane I'm talking about) so they could sell it to Creswin as part of this project. This was to accommodate trash removal, and other private interests.

Well most (all) the property owners that have a stake in that lane were against it except Creswin.

I'll link to the DMIS report when I have a minute.

Specifics of the problems are detailed on page 6 of this report... Some of the building owners were not going to give acceptance.

There has to be more to that story. I thought that any building needed to meet code at the time of construction or renovation but otherwise code changes do not normally apply to existing buildings. You don't hear about every home owner with a gas fire place needing to run out and replace it because they need one that does not have a pilot light. Why would the parkade then be compelled to replace its railings because they "don't meet code anymore"?
