New renderings for Jade Enterprise Sapphire and Emerald development

Sapphire could look nice. City West is where all our current 7-stories should have been forced to go (at least the 3 Hanovers, 1 Lennar, & Eighth + Grand).

Great shots, as always, Hunter! Just a quick question to our "eyes in the sky": are you seeing any progress on the Onni 50-story tower on Olive? That thing is going to have a pretty significant impact from the viewpoint of that first aerial shot.

Thanks! Ya they're slowly but surely digging down, which is great news. It's going to have an insane impact on the skyline, being by far the tallest tower in the area.

This was taken March 22nd but they have gone maybe a floor or two deeper since then:

Wilshire Grand Tower is one of the nicest building I've seen so far.

More importantly, people with south-facing views will be able to test their long-range shot skills on Level's basketball court...

gkgilbert on Instagram reports that there is movement on the 33 story tower at 4th and Hill streets. Apparently the subway station entrance has been closed off. Hopefully construction will commence soon.

To the best of my knowledge, the station entrance is closed because Metro is replacing the escalator. The tower is still moving forward, per the most recent Downtown News development edition, but this doesn't have anything to do with it.

How much of the station stays intact when the tower goes up?

If the tower were happening (I highly highly doubt), why waste $$ replacing the escalator? Unless the tower is built around the metro station...

That being said my list has it breaking ground this month along with 4 other projects. Only 1 of them I have over 20% faith in - the 7-story portion of Park 5th.

The Metro station stays entrance as-is as per the tower plans, its unaltered in a plaza in front of the tower.

from Metro: A long-term closure of the northeast 4th and Hill Street portal at Pershing Square starts next Monday, April 18, through January 2017. During the closure, crews will replace the escalators and re-grade the Metro plaza on that side of the station. In addition to escalator replacement, the closure will coincide with a longer-term project — the construction of a mixed-use development.

The 4th Street west entrance and 5th Street entrance to Pershing Square Station will remain open for use.

Here’s the construction notice:

(its text in a pdf document that is not copyable, but it clearly states that this work will
coincide with construction of the 33 story tower)

Your list doesn't prove a thing.

It's normal that some projects (like Fig Central) need more time.
What is the big deal? It's the same thing in New York and everywhere else.

The escalator has nothing to do with the tower, you should know that.

So the tower is on I assume then? Just walked by and it looks like they're mothballing the whole thing - wrapping the granite (or marble) sections in wood and padding. The open top area is wooded over as well. Green construction fencing was going up. Let's hope the tower starts soon but Taco House #1 is still going strong...

City West always gets the shittiest looking seven stories (several palmers, 1111 wilshire, 6th/Bixel) Sapphire should change this. When will these break ground? Beginning of next year hopefully?

4th and Hilll has 428 units in a 33 story building with an above ground parking podium? Are these micro units, or is it a Center for Ants?

888 S Hope would've had 526 in its 33 story.

According to Urbanize 4th & Hill will have "22 very low-income units, and 86 workforce housing units." Those 108 units are likely very small.

Not project related, but if anyone is interested in hidden gems of history within the downtown loop, I was able to find 2 locations in Google SV with exposed paving blocks, or basically brick/cobblestone that remains from the late 1800's/early 1900's. The only spot that I have seen documented a few times on here and other sources lies at Bruno Street near LASHP, as most may already know, so I did not include that one.

Anyway, if anyone else is a DTLA history nerd like myself, here is where you can find them:

First one, which I found a few years back, lies on an alleyway named Werdin Pl. You can only see the street views from just south of Winston St (even though this alley is closed to vehicle traffic), but there is an almost completely exposed swath of red bricks going about halfway down the alley. Some cool artwork from one of the building owners lines the eastern walls as well.

The one I just found today contains a darker, more gray colored brick/stone and can be found on Avery St. (The small one-ended street off Traction south of 3rd and West of SCI-Arc). The brick runs along a little strip in the center of the street from Traction down to where it dead ends at some old railroad tracks. The last portion seems to be a different kind of brick, but I'm not expert so I'm not sure, but if anyone can chime in that would be much appreciated!

I also remember someone mentioned on here a few months back that a bit of exposed brick sidewalk was visible somewhere on the outskirts of the AD, in a very industrial area. I looked at it on GSV and it checked out, but can't remember exactly where. If I do, I'll post it if anyone is interested.

Call it sour grapes, but I used to update all the time at street level. But people here only like the aerials, so I give up on the effort. Even though I can afford it, but I just dont see the need to keep up with the dronses.
