Not sure if a pic of this has ever been posted, but here's the completed pedway between the two FCC towers. I believe it was completed just recently within the past month or two. I imagine one can get some good views of the downtown up there..

Drove thru Regina this weekend, wow what a difference from the last time i was there ~12 years ago.

You guys are starting to have a skyline now!

The planning commission is also going to be dealing with the proposed development for 13th and Elphinstone.

If anything the site has too much parking. I'm a little peeved about the amount of retail decreasing, but 13th needs a jolt of life and this is a good first step.

What ever happened to that condo building on 13th and Retallack?

If you want people to hear you it is important to come up with cogent arguments that appeal to peoples sense of reason. Glad to see they dropped their objections based on "transient" people moving into rental properties and came up with the argument about wildlife. Everyone likes wildlife, right?

Because they're not progressive in any meaningful way? Being in favour of unions and higher taxes doesn't mean they have any understanding of urban planning and vibrant cities.

They view cathedral as a museum that must never change.

So I am watching a documentary tonight called The Edge of War on City TV. It is a historical docu-drama series about the lead up to wars. This episode ia about the 1980 Iran-Iraq war. Saddam Hussein vs Ayatollah Khomeini. In the scene below the Ayatollah's henchmen are executing his opponents on a roof top in Tehran. I noticed something familiar about the skyline in the background. The Hill Centre twins and Tower 3 under construction. I also saw the TD Building. This is on the Leader Building roof. The Hotel Sask and Knox Met are in other scenes set in Baghdad.

Actually quite an interesting and well done show if you like history.

There was the smart ass that wrote in spray paint grafitti on the new (at the time) "Regina" sign about 5 miles east on highway #1....."welcome to Baghdad"

Skydivepilot will recognize this location that is supposed to be an Iranian Airbase. I assume that fighter is CGI.

Here's a link to the City TV page. It looks like there are 6 episodes of Edge of War - they may all have Regina scenes. There are also documentaries about tower cranes (Tower 3 build?) and about the continuous pour of the massive Mosaic K3 headframe tower. I have not watched these yet.

Oh, that's CGI alright! Yeah, I did my fight training at the RFC. Damn, I have to watch these shows though.

Are you guys talking about Tower III, or Ag Place? Tower III was under construction between late 2010 until mid-2012.

That's an Iranian AF F-14, so no way it's real. Only the U.S. Navy and the Iran AF ever flew them. The Navy retired the last one in 2006, but Iran is still trying to keep them airworthy despite a 36 year parts embargo. A friend was recently at Pearl Harbour where they have one on display. He was told they recently caught a "tourist" trying to steal parts off the display!

I have not watched the crane video but the war video is from 2012 so yes to Tower 3 on that one. Edit crane video says: Aired: Nov 12, 2012. I can' t get them to play off the City TV site though. I will try later.

That show would have been shot in 2011.

The photoshop above isn't --- too --- bad, but they made the F-14 too small in that picture. (It's a very big airplane!)

The development in Cathedral wasn't approved at the planning commission last night because residents don't want a 31 stall parking lot instead of the 103 year old house owned by the developer.

A few comments on this:

1) They made the wrong decision overall, it was a good development for the area.

2) Only 31 parking stalls for 29 apartments and a business? How would that meet parking bylaw requirements? I agree public transit should be a good alternative, but it's not in Regina so we still need parking. Even 2 stalls per unit is probably not enough in this city.

3) The old home is a total dump, I've been in there (my friend's grandma is the one who sold it to the developer and now has changed her mind and wants it to stay). It's infested with rats and needs major work.

4) Could this push the developer to create underground parking of some sort? I doubt that would be economically feasible for them.
