They are building a temporary store on the second floor while they redo the bottom floor and part of the second floor. They are rounding off the corner at Burrard and Alberni

Even an older streetfront retail along Denman is only $5/SF/mth, much lower than the $7/SF/mth offered at the new building.

Retailers value 3 things: location, location, location. Being on a busy street passed by thousands of people a day far outvalues the difference in rent. Not to mention you're in a brand new space rather than a worn out mall.

I'm sure rents in Kingsgate mall are a bargain too...

Some Robson and Alberni updates :

Saint Laurent Paris : Signage on hoarding up today

Artizia flagship : opened today Robson and Thurlow Surprised none of the windows were changed out, looks awkward with planter boxes blocking old glass entry doors.

Richer Poorer : now opened in the former Lacoste space, looks temporary

Donair Dude opened its third location on Lonsdale, other two are on the downtown peninsula. It's really good and I could see it blowing up. Kinda like Subway if Subway actually had fresh ingredients and nice staff like their ads show.

Maybe the new small versions of Save On Foods stores will just be placeholders until major redevelopment is viable.

Roots renovation is almost done, should have taken a snap and posted it on my update ( just above ) yesterday. New facade looks much cleaner, bolder and more current.

Certainly small compared to most purpose-built, stand alone Save-On stores, but it's comparable in size to the Coopers Foods locations that have recently converted to Save-On stores. Seems Overwaitea is in the process of consolidating their numerous brands into Save-On stores, which will leave them with just two brands, Save-On-Foods and Urban Fare.

Some other retail headed to Grosvenor Ambleside:

Announcements on other shops under consideration for the complex – including a florist, dry cleaner, grocer, wine bar, coffee shop and a fitness centre – could be made as early as this summer, according to Ward.

If Jimmy Pattison is getting a penthouse maybe an Urban Fare?

Some more pics from Alberni and Thurlow today. Notice the little bit of extra exposure on the Saint Laurent Paris sign?

Saint Laurent

We were asked to not report on Saint Laurent until hoarding went up. The store will be about 5,000 sq ft. Ground level will be women's, upstairs men's, and a basement level will include office/backroom: http://www.retail-insider.com/retail-insider/2016/4/saint-laurent

Watch for another Richmont brand to announce a location on Alberni Street next, if we don't get to it first.

And Price Smarts as Overwaitea's answer to T&T

The Tiffany store from what I remember from the rendering involved a revamping of the building facade and cladding in marble, not to different from the store on Bloor Street. It also showed the old glass canopy removed with new Tiffany blue fabric awnings. I also heard a rumour that the Van Cleef store will share space with a relocated Cartier store, If true the area split up of that building would have to be very different with Van Cleef taking a much smaller chunk of the space than previously thought.

Arrow Formidable!! Merveilleux!! Quartier Chic!!

Wonderful how this "Rodeo Drive" is taking place. It gives Vancouver an opulent downtown elegance it never had before. §§§ Now, to address the pavement, lighting, street furniture ...

I really wonder about the stores that are in close proximity to each other.

I guess the panels adjacent to the Versace entrance didn't have the intended effect?
