The whole thing including renos 25 years later still amounts to well under a billion dollars. Totally different ballpark, no pun intended. And BC Place's roof works.

That $35 million is not a public liability (not yet, at least).

That's textbook victim blaming. If you try to follow proper etiquette and credit sources like you claimed above, you'd credit photos from unknown sources as 'Source Unknown' rather than providing no information about the source.

The Big O will bleed money until you tear it to the bones and renovate it. Likely $650 million could get it up to a modern state.

True, pending the results of the lawsuits... But it's still part of the overall "stadium cost" regardless of who is paying the amount in the end, no?

I'm no accountant, but at the end of the day the main issue is how much the purchaser is paying for the finished product. If there is some deficiency that eats into the designer/builder's overhead, I'm not sure that's really a concern to me as a buyer.

In other words, if I have a $30,000 Ford Fusion which has to go in for warranty work to replace the transmission 6 months out, does the car now become a $35,000 car? Maybe in some technical accounting sense yes, but to the world I'd still be driving a $30,000 car.

Depends if it was something that was done incorrectly or something that was a design deficiency. If more due diligence were done, and there were no major issues to address afterward, would the original stadium have still cost $213 mill? Or would it have cost $250?

Presumably, Montreal wouldn't be looking at a pre-correction of deficiencies IGF as the comparable here. They would need to consider the full cost of the stadium post remedial work required for complete functionality as the standard.

I'd prefer an example of a home... Say you got a home built for $215k, and the builder screwed up and had to put in $35k of additional fixes/repairs.. Sure you may have still paid $215k (assuming it was all the builder's fault), but the next home built for the next customer isn't going to come at a price tag of $215k, the builder is going to bump it up to $250k as the cost to produce a fully finished home.

I'm guessing it would be somewhere between the 2 figures though... There's likely some demo work that wouldn't have to be done if it were done correctly at the outset.

Nope. I really meant it.
Most of downtown Laval is either uninteresting or ugly.
This arena will be a bright addition to what is currently a suburban disaster.

horrible. Seats arent at an aggressive enough slope and the field is very far away. I love commonwealth but it needs an update. I think they should tear one side down and rebuild it. the same way TD place and THF have all the suites and clubs on one side. That's really the answer for Edmonton. Sort of like what the 49ers did. Solves the size issue because you can bring the seating capacity down, solves the amenities issue and the running track.

That sounds awfully expensive and I really doubt they'll get a return on investment to justify the massive cost.

Same could be said for damn well every stadium in Canada, yet they exist.

exactly. yeah it would be about a 60M investment plus the cost of demo but you would have proper suites and clubs, new press box, lower the capacity down, create demand and atmosphere and keep you in line with the rest of Canada's stadiums. Lets face it the suites at CW are garbage and its way too big for the CFL and lets not act like the running track doesn't make a difference.

What a load of crap, from the cost right down to criticizing a suite that a kid like you has probably never been in.

It must be nice to not know how the world works. I've got a Bugatti Veyron I can sell to you for the low price of only a couple hundred thousand dollars too!

What you conveniently ignore is not only would spending hundreds of millions renovating Commonwealth like you want it to be renovated not be worth it, but Commonwealth is not a CFL only stadium and was/is designed to host events other than just football. You seem obsessed with its capacity being further reduced which just isn't going to happen, sorry.

Interesting quote...

Alex Singleton: the best Canadian linebacker you’ve never heard about
Justin Dunk http://3downnation.com April 16, 2016

Current CFL players have been telling Singleton about the level of play in the CFL. Defensive lineman Zach Minter, who’s with the B.C. Lions, played two seasons alongside Singleton at Montana State. And he’s become workout buddies with Bombers’ standout linebacker Khalil Bass.

“They say game-wise the players are just as good as in the NFL. They love the stadiums,” Singleton says.
