I (from Calgary) have gone numerous times to games/events in Edmonton and do notice the longer distance to the field of play. Getting a cheap ticket high up at centre field is really far away and a cheap ticket to the Grey Cup, you're way up high behind the endzone.

McMahon stadium is much more intimate - but a lot less comfortable, at least in the bleachers, compared to Commonwealth.

Speaking as a Rider fan: I prefer going to games at Commonwealth over games at Mosaic. Especially when you get thousands of Rider fans in that building, Commonwealth is a fantastic place to watch a game. You're a little farther away from the field, sure, but it's the only negative and it honestly has never bothered me that much.

If you'll notice when I post articles I always give credit to the author and publication. Had I known where this photo came from I would have credited you. If you're openly posting photos and want to be credited you might want to watermark them otherwise people might credit people who reposted your photo.

I think the seats at Commonwealth really took the look of the stadium up a notch for a 40 year old stadium it's still looking great. Not a fan of the exterior of Mosaic one bit looks like siding from the late 60/s real fail on that . Winnipeg's stadium is way nicer imo.

The onus is on you to source and credit other people's photos properly, not the original photographer.

The only time I was there, I was in the corner about 30 rows up. If the action was on the opposite side of the field from us, it was difficult to see what was happening. Having said that, I had a blast at Commonwealth, and enjoyed every other aspect of it.

Doesn't IGF also use similar siding on the outside of its stadium in some areas?

Well, I'm glad you know where I got the picture because I sure don't. It may well have come from there or it may have been posted somewhere else by somebody else and I got it elsewhere, I don't know.

It is proper etiquette to credit the author and if I found it posted here I missed sourcing the author but you should realize that your work may be posted in multiple places and not sourced whether the onus is on the poster or not.

Most people post photos for people to view and are not looking for recognition. If you need the recognition a watermark would help.

Not trying to dodge the blame, the fault is mine, just saying if you leave the car running with the keys in it, don't be surprised if it gets used.

Forget the roof, fixing up the rest of the Olympic Stadium will cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Quebec's Minister responsible for the Montréal region Martin Coiteux was in Montreal Thursday to discuss the province's 10 year infrastructure plan, which includes $88.7 billion in spending to help among other things, highways, public transportation and the Plan Nord.

Thursday night was dedicated to the budget for the Montreal area, so of course the Olympic Stadium was discussed.

The latest inspections by the Olympic Installations Board show the Stadium needs more than $280 million in renovations. That is up $60 million from last year.

Those costs don't even include any money for the roof, which experts tell the government is at the end of its life and can no longer be repaired.

The cost to replace the roof completely has been estimated to cost a minimum of $215 million.

The government has planned $213 million for repairs to the envelope of the stadium's tower and major renovations to the promenade, tourist hotspots in the Olympic Park and to the parking structure.

I don't think that's a Commonwealth-specific problem, that's just a big-stadium-with-lots-of-rows problem. I sat high up in the upper deck corners of the Metrodome for a Vikings game last time I went to one, and I had a hard time seeing action on the other end of the field... I mean, I could see the general play but I had to squint to read player names and numbers, that kind of thing. And that was on a smaller NFL sized field with no track around it.

For the years that I attended games at Commonwealth I can't say that I ever consciously noticed any effect on my experience due to the running track. I thought the views there were just fine, including those from the end zones.

Mind boggling. That renovation project, which doesn't even include the roof, will cost a shade more than this entire project:



From a dollars and cents standpoint, the Big O surely must rank as one of the worst buildings of all time.

+ $35 mill to address issues post-construction. Definitely in the same ballpark with IGF and NMS though.

I think it gets a pass in the comparison because of original construction costs... And the fact that it is still regularly used.

If they had a big event ie WC and could guarantee a result like BC Place I'd be all for spending Quebecer's money to do it.
