I can't remember if I posted this before, but here's a little TBT Edmonton-style to Commonwealth Stadium circa 1982. Check out the 25 yard endzones!

Gotta admit, as with those pics of Rexall Place when it was first built posted a couple pages back, I love the clean lines of those 60s, 70s and 80s stadiums and rinks before they got too cluttered with ads, signage and other such eyesores.

Love the clean field. I wish the CFL would get rid of the ads on the field but I understand their reasoning, the need to maximize revenue streams over a pleasing look.

I can only imagine the outrage over the cutoff corners of the endzone. It's as though there was no regard to the sanctity of the game, the well-being of the players, or the irreparable harm this would do to children everywhere.

I know, right? There were probably trauma hotlines set up to deal with the anguish it generated.

At least they had real turf to play on, because heaven knows what would have happened otherwise.

I sure do miss real grass. Always loved watching football played on a sloppy field (or is that muddy pitch).

Part 1 of the premiere webisode focuses on the expansion and redevelopment of Toronto's BMO Field, with guest Bob Hunter of MLSE.

There's a few thoughts on MLSE's motivations for the expansion and also Hunter mentions a possible revisit to the idea of a reinforced turf ie Desso in the third video.

Now that is the true cathedral of Canadian football. Commonwealth has been home to several Grey Cups, hosted the best and last dynasty the CFL has ever seen with the Edmonton Eskimos of 1978-82 and is very well-maintained and aging gracefully. It is our Lambeau Field.

Yeah, nothing beat coming home after stopping at the chemist for a package of crisps and sitting down to watch a match of gridiron on the telly in those days.
