That is actually a really cool mural. I won't be against this building getting built or anything silly like that but it is a shame to lose cool art like that.

Also funny that streetview blurs out the guys face in the mural.

You'll love European cities with their face-blurred-out statues!

I hate street view in Germany where half the buildings are blurred out.

That building has nice proportions - it would look great anywhere in the city.

I think the church next door is wanting to redevelop?

The former Empire Theatres project has a new (?) website and revised (boring) design.
Looks like they're proposed a level above the old art deco Coronet Theatre?

If it were more like 100,000 sq ft instead of 39,500 sq ft, it could appeal to Simons.

You can see how the glass is articulated in the centre facade.

I agree. I like it a lot. It reminds me quite a bit of the Goodman's Fields development in Aldgate, London, just on a much smaller scale.

I don't know why but for some reason I fear it ending up with sea foam (light green/blue) spandrel everywhere.

Thats a very realistic assumption. I feel like we need a support group for this. I too once lost a loved one to seafoam spandrel...

They are planning to redevelop, along with the Salvation Army building across the street. According to the Georgia Strait stories from a few months ago, they are both looking for development partners.

Considering the work that both these property owners do, I wonder if they are offering their property for free in exchange for the social housing that accompanies developments in this area.

If that will be the case, then the rendering is very misleading. I cannot see which elements of that rendering could be spandrel.

It's a VERY good-looking building as per rendering. Big thumbs up from here.

From the Gair Williamson Architects website - haven't seen this before - narrow lot next to the Scotiabank Dance Centre on Granville.

GW is the same architect as at least one of the narrow Chinatown buildings.

No other info on the website.

Also from the Gair Williamson Architects website -
Renderings of the addition to Le Magasin in Gastown - dated 2014.

I like how the pleated façade mimics the angles on the pediment on the heritage façade without being literal.

328 Water St.
While it looks nice, I would hate for the modern on top of heritage to extend to that block since it's relatively free of that look compared to Water Street.

Love the Han Tower. Would be my favourite building under construction behind Vancouver House if it commenced before some of our other more prominent proposals.

Buildings like these - The Han Tower, and 328 Water Street, and others - help a stablish a continuity of style for the city. For many years, it was hodge-podge, anything went.
Now, as these, and other places like along Robson Square, Vancouver is starting to develop a linear cohesion, which will enhance the handsomeness of the city with a new continuity.
