Also a new render was put on the midtown alliance recap page for 195 13th st.
And here are the Midtown Alliance construction updates for the month of March
Quote:
Each month, we provide a construction update on our current Public Space Projects. See what's happening as we give you more to love about Midtown.
Peachtree Streetscape: Ponce de Leon to Pine St. - Midtown’s southernmost section of Peachtree St. from Ponce de Leon Avenue to Pine Street is receiving a facelift. New sidewalks, curbs, ADA ramps, paving, supplemental lighting, landscaping, a mid-block crossing near Emory University Hospital Midtown, and other improvements will enhance the link between Midtown and Downtown Atlanta. Construction has been underway since November, and the majority of hardscape work has been completed south of Linden Ave. Crews are currently working on the west side of Peachtree between Ponce and North Ave. Supplemental street trees will be planted in the next 1-2 weeks, and the entire project will be finished by Fall 2016.
Peachtree Street Bridges (North and South) - Midtown Alliance, in cooperation with Central Atlanta Progress (CAP), is directing a $6 million enhancement of the two Peachtree Street bridges over I-75/85. This effort will celebrate the bridges on either end of Midtown as gateways to Atlanta's urban core. Enhancements include new gateway features, bridge fencing, lighting, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities. CAP's contractor began construction on the South (Downtown) bridge between Pine Street and Ralph McGill Boulevard in late October. The pedestrian barrier/planter walls have been installed on both sides of the bridge and will be planted this month. Construction mobilized in mid-November on the North (Midtown) bridge with installation of protective Interstate overhangs, removal of old fencing, and installation of temporary protective fencing. The pedestrian barrier/planter wall on one side of the bridge is complete, the other side is about 35% done, and pedestals will soon be poured for the steel arches. Shop drawings are nearing approval for fencing, signage, and arches. Construction of the bridge enhancements will be complete by December 2016.
7th Street Two-way Conversion - The Connect Atlanta Plan calls for 7th Street to be converted to two-way traffic between West Peachtree St. and Piedmont Ave. Design plans have been permitted and construction awarded. Contractors mobilized last month and poured the footing for a new traffic signal mast arm at Peachtree and 7th Streets. The full conversion, including paving of 1 block, traffic signals, signage, and pavement re-striping will be complete by June 2016.
Sidewalk Repairs - Since November 2014, construction crews have been busy tackling a scope of 150 priority repairs on 11 corridors throughout the Midtown Improvement District. Work includes patching or replacing concrete, resetting pavers, curb and ADA ramp upgrades, and other sidewalk repairs to help maintain and improve Midtown's walkability. Approximately 80 repairs have been completed to-date. Crews will soon replace additional bollards in medians at the intersection of 14th St. and Piedmont Ave. and will return to repair hardscape at the intersection of Ponce de Leon and 3rd St. Repairs will continue throughout 2016.
Enhancements
Tree Management Program (ongoing) - Because we place tremendous value on Midtown's urban tree canopy, Midtown Alliance invests in an annual care regimen of planting, fertilization, pruning, and other treatments for street trees within the Midtown Improvement District. We regularly consult with arborists to assess, prioritize, and manage our tree inventory. In December and January, crews pruned Oak trees along Peachtree St. between 14th St. and I-75/85 and American Elms throughout the District, to improve their structure and form and raise branch levels over streets and sidewalks. In February, we administered annual injections of slow release macro and micro nutrients into the root zones of 1,337 street trees totaling 11,047 caliper inches. Additionally, we removed 7 small trees from existing tree wells and a parcel slated for redevelopment to new locations better-suited for their long-term survival. Last month, we removed a handful of diseased, dying, or missing street trees and replaced them with new, healthy, urban-tolerant trees.
Tree Well Fencing and Planting - Midtown's Tree Well Adoption Program has been underway since 2013. To-date 262 tree wells have been adopted by partners, and new tree well fencing and low-water use perennials and flowers have been installed along much of Peachtree Street from Ponce to 15th Street. The tree wells at 999 Peachtree St. were recently expanded to give trees more room to grow, fencing has been installed and landscaping will be installed shortly. Look for more fencing and beautiful new plants on other priority Midtown corridors throughout 2016.
