Yep, you would think. But at same time for as long as it took to get from the initial announcement of One PA Plaza to the eventual ground breaking of the first Comcast, the second tower went up very quickly after the first announcement.

For the record, I'm not putting much stake in the rumor. I think those construction sites turn into these whisper down the lane type gossip chains. Who knows what is actually true.

PayPal Withdraws Plan for Charlotte Expansion

Wow. Interesting. A little surprised, but good for them. Of course, Philly is a very inclusive city. How many cities have rainbow streets and a formal neighborhood called the Gayborhood? So, let's get to fixing our taxes and other issues yesterday. With NY and CA moving to $15 an hour minimum wage, I wonder if we'll see some movement of companies out of there. IF not headquarters, at least operational facilities where there are more lower income workers.

Not just PayPal either. Look at the other companies, particularly at the bottom of the article, that may be doing something. Wow, companies may really be excersizing their economic power to influence social issues.

EDIT: Edited to link the other article I was talking about:

Could Phila. lure cancelled PayPal center from Charlotte?

Quote:
South Jersey native turned committed Philadelphian Gianni Parente, a real estate investment analyst, is waging a one-man messaging campaign urging members of Mayor Kenney's administration to lobby PayPal to move its planned East Coast data center and 400 jobs to Philadelphia.

This after the online-payments company said it is cancelling its proposed Charlotte, N.C. location because North Carolina legislators passed a law banning towns from letting transgendered people choose their restrooms, which LGBT-rights activists call discriminatory.

While its burbs are home to SAP, SunGard and Unisys, Philadelphia has not been a leading headquarters for large software firms lately. Parente says it's time to change that. "These are operations center jobs, not necessarily really high tech," Parente told me. "It would just be nice to see the Philly community jump on an opportunity like this. There's a strong LGBT community here and this is a prime way to show off how progressive the city is and how welcoming we would be to PayPal."

PayPal was spun off by eBay last year. Suburban King of Prussia is already an office center for two other eBay spinoffs, fomerly part of Michael Rubin's GSI Commerce. "So the relationships already exist," Parente added. "Wouldn't hurt to ask.... This is right up Mayor Kenney's alley."

We should definitely do this even if there's little hope of success. And I think we're already behind the 8-ball. Pretty sure other mayors already have reached out.

He is likely referring to the Camden Waterfront.

But we already know all about that, why would his source need to be hush-hush about it?

It isn't really related to thread length. These diagrams are user-submitted (and in fact run in a part of the site I don't think I even have any power over) -- we just don't have that many Sketchuppers to submit diagrams right now.

That said, if you want to submit a diagram and have mad skillz go have a go at it!

Unfortunately , I'm just a "tag along " on this thread and depend on all the info everyone else posts
here to keep my imaginary juices flowing . IF , I had sketch up talent , I would have posted a half dozen
elevations for 8th.&Market by now ....... But thanks for the response and I will try to not make too many
dumb 🞵🞵🞵 statements in my future posts .

Indy Hall finds new, expanded home in Old City

Quote:
Indy Hall, a co-working firm that has become synonymous with the growth of the tech scene in Old City, has signed a lease to relocate and expand.

After looking throughout the Old City neighborhood, Indy Hall signed a lease on 10,000 square feet at 399 Market St. The co-working firm had made its home in about 8,000 square feet at 22 N. 3rd St.

Alex Hillman started Independents Hall with Geoff DiMasi in 2006 to build a community and find users for the co-working space in Old City. Indy Hall, which seven years ago moved to its current home amid a cluster of technology businesses and workers along an area that has been dubbed N3rd — pronounced “nerd’ — Street.

It has become one of the city’s oldest co-working communities and is now one of a dozen or more that are expanding their footprints in Philadelphia. It counts programmers, developers, artists and others among its members.

Aramark to keep its world HQ in Philadelphia

Quote:
Aramark has decided to keep its global headquarters in Philadelphia, ending speculation that the food- and facilities-services giant that employs thousands in the area may decamp for another city.

The company was not yet sure whether it would remain at its namesake headquarters tower at 1101 Market St. or move to another building in the city, but had concluded that Philadelphia's business costs, talent supply, transportation links and other factors would keep it in town, communications chief Tod MacKenzie said in an interview ahead of a planned Thursday announcement.

Thats good. I'm guessing they will move. Either to 2400 market or in the space FMC will vacate.

I'll be happy as long as they don't move to the Navy Yard (which of course is still much better than moving out of the city altogether). Being where they are now - so close to mass transit - I'd venture to say that their employees would be majorly upset if they move to the Navy Yard. 2400 Market is close enough to 30th Street, although currently employees can get to work directly from Market East without having to venture outside, a big plus on cold/rainy days. I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed and I'd be perfectly fine with that. Best case scenario: anchor tenant for Cira II or Brandywine's concept tower for West Market.

Considering where they are now 2400 Market is less than convenient. 30th street isn't that far, but it's not nearly as close as Jefferson is to their current building. The other thing is that you don't have much in the way of existing retail or eateries around that building. People would either have to eat within the building or walk to 30th street to find stuff.

This location would be more isolated, sure. But, it's less than a 10 minute walk to 20th street, where you can find, literally, dozens and dozens and dozens of lunch/dinner spots. And locating a Fortune 500 global HQ right on the riverfront could do a lot to add density and infrastructure to this part of the city.

Can we please get a cafe/restaurant on the Schulykill River Trail - whether they float it on a small barge in the river ala Paris/London or they build a small structure with dozens of outdoor seats ala Bryant Park... We have these really neat components throughout the city, let's start making them more sophisticated.

While I'd love to see a new tower, I'd rather seem them stay put as an "anchor" on Market East. I briefly worked there and can testify, as others have observed, that there's nowhere to go but down in terms of the convenience that the workers currently enjoy. I'm glad that the Navy Yard has been a success, but until it's better connected with the rest of town, to me it's like an very nice suburban office park with wage tax.

This move also would not be for another 1.5 years. Aramark sees what the future looks like around 2400 and may make the move on that.

Personally it would be weird not seeing the Aramark name on that building.
