I didn't get to explore Calgary as much as I'd like, but the bits just across the river from downtown (Sunnyside?) is pretty urban and impressive.

I think most of those cars arrive on RORO ships (roll on roll off), as opposed to containers.

You are correct. The cars get unloaded off the RORO ships and put on rail cars to send back east and elsewhere.
